5.0 out of 5 stars Great cooler for my Dell XPS M1330 13 Nov 2009
I have a Dell XPS M1330. These laptops are well renowned for overheating (and getting to the point where they are so hot you can no longer comfortably use them) and having found no fix so far I decided to take the plunge and buy a laptop cooler. After reading some reviews and advice on forums I was recommend the Zalman coolers. After discovering this cooler on Amazon for a decent price I decided to go ahead and see if it was any good. IT WORKED! I play a lot of games on my laptop and recently purchased The Sims 3. After playing games for about 30mins my laptop it would start to overheat and they whole system would slow down. Using this cooler means I can play games for hours on end and it keeps my computer running at full spec!

I would happily recommend this cooler to anyone with an over heating dell XPS, or anyone who has their laptop on for long periods of time. It plugs straight into the usb and you can adjust the power of the fans. It also has its own usb slot so you dont need to worry about it hogging the ports! Definitely one of the best purchases I have made all year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Item 6 Jan 2010
Verified Purchase
Have to agree wholeheartedly with the reviwer above that it's a brilliant addition to my Dell XPS 1330 - it's totally eliminated massive heat management problems i was having when gaming/ playing encoded 720p media.
Was a difficult choice between a few notebook ocolers - but in the end i knew the Zalman would be guaranteed to be a good purchase, and it didn't disappoint - what's more - I've pretty much got it set at the minimum fan level and it's cooling performance is more than enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for cooling 18 Aug 2009

I bought this because my laptop was getting fairly hot when using it for anything but typing, emails etc. Now I can have it running for the whole day and it feels cool to the touch. I had recommended a cooler to my son quite some time ago as he plays a lot of high intensity games and his laptop gets extremely hot. He brushed me off. Now that he has tried this cooler he has been amazed at the difference it makes. His 17" notebook is considerably cooler than before, in fact it is just warm instead of hot. You can comfortable touch it which you could not do before. It took about 1 hour before he noticed the difference as the notebook was so hot, after that the temperature steadily went down to a warm.. It never got as cold as mine, but then I do not play high intensity games. He has now requested one of his own which I have ordered. I would highly recommend this cooler. I have had it for about 1 week and I would not like to be without it. It is very light and easy to use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Has a couple design flaws 21 Mar 2010
I waited a couple weeks before submitting a review. This unit is quite sturdy. Other cooling pads can be flimsy. I wanted one I could depend on when traveling but I did find a couple issues.

1) It can't be my only laptop 'desk'. On a table or desk yes, but if seated on a chair or bed, the pointed feet dig a bit into my legs. It really needs to be on a flat hard surface. I have a fold-up from another vendor that provides a flat surface. The cooling pad can then sit on top of it. For best performance and comfort, I use both (or a desk and the cooling pad.) Seems daft to need to carry two items, though.

2) Because the top and bottom are both dead-flat, if you set it down on a bed the fans get starved and the pitch rises, notifying you. The post-type feet easily sink into a bed surface. The same thing happens when I straddle the little feet when it is on my lap. My legs starve the fans. On top, because the non-skid strips are so thin, if I pick up my laptop, the pitch drops.

3) The non-skid strips on the top are too far apart and too thin in height. I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro (MBP) and if I have the front sitting on the forward non-skid strip, it drops off the back strip. At home on my work table, I use two half-round molding pieces horizontally between the non-skid strips, which increases the space between the computer and unit for better air circulation. These don't travel, yet, as they slide. Hmmm... maybe those rubber-coated draftsman flexible curves as a better work-around...) I've seen other cooling pads that are dished to allow better circulation. The Zalman user guide notes in a tip: "Cooling performance improves proportionally with the gap between the notebook and the cooler."

4) It cools slowly. My MBP is quite old now and gets hot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Job done 21 Dec 2010
As soon as I took my new cooler out of the box and turned it on I thought "what a load of crap - those little fans aren't going to do anything!" But I was wrong... This little gizmo has instantly knocked a full 20 degrees C off my laptop's steady-state temperature. No more cutting out at the worst possible time, no more time wasted waiting for the RAID 5 disks to re-initialise after a temperature initiated shut-down (sometimes it would even get too hot and shut down again before the RAID init had finished!) Now my laptop simply WORKS, which means so can I! Plus the cooler acts as a neat laptop stand, which has utility all by itself. Bliss... :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Zalman Cooler 23 Jun 2010
This is a very expensive laptop cooler, it doesn't make the difference you would expect with its high price tag, also the on button is situated in the most stupid position, it is too close to the cover making it difficult to turn on, I bought this because I have a Zalman cooler in my computer this isn't a patch on it.
