2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing 30 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As an admirer of Hadid's work, I do not think this book did her justice.

Mostly designs, actually parts of various designs, which I could make little sense of as a layman. Why so few photographs of Hadid's wonderful completed buildings which could have been featured instead?

I recommend instead "The Complete Zaha Hadid" (60th Anniversary Edition) by Thames and Hudson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zaha Hadid at the Guggenheim 7 Nov 2006
Buying this book at the exhibition at the Guggenheim museum in New York felt natural after spending hours looking at her drawings, paintings, models, movie interviews and products, and the book did'nt dissapoint me. Maybe except for lacking a few versions of her biggest paintings, but it does not matter so much.

Even if you might be unsure that Zaha Hadid, the first female Pritzker price winner may have architecture that is new to the architect world, this book is a very fine overview of her production. And even if you might not find the similarities between her presentations of a building, her paintings, her models and the building itself, this book presents her in a good way and lets you study her architecure on paper and her techniques.

The book itself is good quality with most of it in thick, black pages (this makes the book bigger and containg less than you would belive when you see it), and it feels good to read. Can be recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars An exhibition catalog and not a monograph 24 Oct 2009
By Eugene Tenenbaum - Published on Amazon.com
Only text up to page 51, then only images up to page 174 including photos, digital renderings, models, paintings of design, and a section, quite well representing Hadid's design of buildings, study project facilities, furniture, and industrial objects. The realized facilitis on photos include: Azabu-Jyuban Building in Tokyo of 1987, Vitra Fire Station in Weil am Rhein of 1990-94, LFOne/Landesgartenschau in Weil am Rhein of 1996-99, Mind Zone Millennium Dome in London of 1998-2000, Lois and Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati of 1997-2003, Car Park and Terminus in Hoenheim-Nord Strasbourg of 1998-2001, Bergisel Ski Jump in Innsbruck of 1999-2002, Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg of 1999-2005, Ordrupgaard Museum Extension in Denmark of 2001-05, BMW Plant Central Building in Leipzig of 2001-05, Hotel Puerta America in Madrit of 2003-05. There are also illustrations of studies and renderings of most recent works in progress.
The book features color illustrations of designs and models, previously unpublished paintings and photographs of buildings at all stages of construction, as well as two previously unpublished interviews with Hadid by Alvin Boyarsky.
Having first achieved international recognition through her striking images and designs, Zaha Hadid is now widely known as an innovator who consistently tests the boundaries of architecture, urbanism and design. One of her most important "testing fields" has been her drawings. Her reconsideration of the architectural drawing through nontraditional floor plans has had a major impact on all areas of design and architecture. Once considered not buildable, her projects can now be seen around the world, including major projects in Europe, North America and Asia.
Hadid's most recent work incorporates smooth surfaces where walls seem to melt, floors curving upward, and ceilings that appear to compress, bend and expand. In her designs, architecture emerges not as an isolated object but out of the surrounding landscape and urban environment, and as a result of its users' movements and paths. Her work addresses "fluid geometries" and "artificial natures."

3.0 out of 5 stars ok ok 15 May 2007

A Good compilation of past, present and future projects, sketches and models. an eye candy of her work without too much text (which is fine if thats what you want). however...the image print quality is not upto a crisp standard.

if thats not too much of a concern. a must buy for a hadid fan.

(havent quite understood the binding system which makes the book twice as fat as it should be with a waste of paper!!!)

Very fine edition; the presentation manner and print quality are best suited to Hadid's style.
The whole concept is excellent
1.0 out of 5 stars Over priced, limited content, ego centred 20 July 2014

Firstly, what a waste of paper, this artistic way of producing a book is stupidity at its best. The overall quality of the book is poor, there isn't a lot of process/working images, just a bunch of advertising quality photos. It's basically an advert of her ego.
