Product Description

L'Amour Fou is a deeply moving insight into the private life of fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, and the fifty years he shared with the love of his life, Pierre Bergé.

Throughout their partnership, they were avid collectors of art, spending a large portion of their wealth amassing a collection that would rival the best galleries. Upon Laurent's death in 2008 Bergé decided to sell the couple's beloved collection. It is through this momentous auction, as well as rare archival footage and interviews with those closest to Saint Laurent that the film beautifully depicts his incredible life and the relationship between these two remarkable men.

L'Amour Fou is a wonderful tribute to beauty, elegance, decadence and a man who so perfectly captured all these things.

Special Features:
  • Monsieur Saint Laurent, as seen by the people who worked with him
  • Homage to Mondrian by Yves Saint Laurent
  • Yves Saint Laurent – The Tuxedo Suit
  • Seven never-before-seen vignettes on Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s extravagant homes and art collection

4.0 out of 5 stars A farewell to Yves Saint Laurent 7 Jan 2012
This film see's Yves Saint Laurent, through the eye's of his partner Pierre Berge. A farewell from Pierre to Yves. Pierre's sale of their precious art collection and the making of this film, possibly was part of the grieving process for him. Yet you feel that the relationship hit the rocks years before due to Yves excesses with drugs and drink.

Yves and Pierre's relationship came about because of Yves at Dior, yet Yves success and the pressures caused him to burn out. It's something I can relate to as I used to be involved in the design world, it's not glamorous but constant hard work, many burn out no matter how talented. These days I prefer to paint. Perhaps Yves should have retired long before he did, but work was in his blood and he carried on after sobering up for over a decade.

The extras on this dvd are excellent. These include interviews with those who worked closely with Yves. Plus visits to the couples homes and private views of their art collection. Pierre is dignified throughout the film, he allows us access, but not too much. Yves was a private person and Pierre still respects this.

Overral this is a very good film, a little slow at times, but if you have patience you will be rewarded.

3.0 out of 5 stars The End 18 Feb 2013
This is an incredibly sad film, it tells the story about the final ending of Pierre Berges relationship with YSL with the breakup of their art collection that they had amassed together. The film is mainly Mr Berges talking about his life with YSL, and looking at the houses they owned together. There is very little footage of YSL couture. It's just very sad.
