Book Description

28 Feb 2013
This is the indispensable handbook for any parent preparing to wean their child. Not only does it contain over a hundred healthy, flavoursome recipes suitable for weaning babies, but it also offers a step-by-step guide in how to go about weaning the baby-led way. Children's eating habits vary from meal to meal so waste is a common frustration in the family kitchen. This book targets the problem with advice on how to manage those leftovers. Whilst all the recipes are free from refined sugar and either low-salt or salt-free they do not compromise on taste - so they can be enjoyed by the whole family. Plus, with most recipes having tips for 'Adult Add-ons', you can be sure that these recipes will tantalize even the most sophisticated palate. The ingredients used in this book are commonly sourced, can be found on most supermarket shelves and are used throughout the recipes. Recipes indicate their suitability for freezing and are honest about preparation and cooking times. As this cook book is written by parents for parents it understands that time is a precious commodity: recipes have been tabled according to cooking time, enabling the parent to easily select meals that can be produced during nap times. With each recipe tried and tested by parents and their children, we are confident that this book will give parents the inspiration to create exciting, fuss-free and tasty meals that all the family can take pleasure in eating together. Take the stress out of baby-weaning and let this book bring joy to your family kitchen.

4.0 out of 5 stars BLW essential! 12 May 2013
Format:Paperback
This book was most definitely my crutch when it came to weaning my youngest daughter! With my eldest daughter I had gone down the traditional, pureed, spoon-fed route, so BLW was new territory for me when it came to weaning my youngest and I needed inspiration! This book certainly provided that. It is packed with so many great recipes that are suitable for the whole family. The carbonara, for example, went down a treat with us all! The recipes are well laid out, easy to follow and best of all easy to make.

Also a big plus point for me is that the book also provides lots of ideas on snacks and meal planning - it's helped me get more organised and provide a healthy, balanced diet for my little ones (and myself and my husband).

Now we are out of the early days of weaning it's a book that I still turn to daily for recipes - there are so many in there, that I still have tons to try! Excellent value for money.

Thank you Felicity and Emma, I'll be looking out with interest for your next book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes but some errors in book 17 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback
There are some lovely recipes in this book and we have and are still enjoying some great meals, however the book seems to be full of errors! At the front of the book it explains that you will find some symbols next to some recipes ie. the freezer symbol. Not one single recipe has
This symbol next to it. The same applies for the left overs symbol. The tuna pasta bake recipe misses out milk from the ingredients which is vital for making the sauce so without knowing how much you need it could go very wrong! The vegetarian moussaka fails to tell you what temperature to heat the oven to. I'm just wondering how many more errors I'm going to find as we've only had the book for a week! I'm very pleased with the recipes but when I've paid money for something I don't expect it to be full of mistakes!

I was really struggling with putting together anything other then baby puree for my little one, which whilst she liked she didn't ever seem to be over joyed by being spoon fed. This book helped me to start thinking about making the same meal for us all and just tweaking standard meals so that they become baby friendly and give your little one something to grab and chew on. I loved that it's set out as breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinners and deserts which makes it easy to flick to the right chapter and find a new tasty meal for my little one to try. The recipes all come with helpful tips for alterations, grown up add on and left overs which is hugely helpful. A great place to start from when you start feeding your little one more then just puree.

This book is excellent, and it has loads of recipes which are now being enjoyed by me and my husband, our 4 year old daughter and our weaning baby.

I used various finger food and weaning books for my daughter, including Annabel Karmel, and was constantly frustrated at having to adapt the recipes to remove the sugar or salt etc. Plus loads of the recipes required frying, which just ended up with burnt, greasy food that my daughter refused to eat.

This book is brilliant, because it has heaps of really interesting recipes which taste great without any salt and sugar in the recipe, and lots of easy hob or oven cooking.

The recipes are healthy, wholesome, easy and taste great. Plus there's loads of quick, handy, helpful tips and adult add-ons.

You can't go wrong if you buy this. Wish it had been around when i was weaning my daughter. Have already bought a second copy as a present for my sister-in-law.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 28 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am a great advocate for Baby led weaning, and already had the Baby Led cookbook. This is well laid out with some great recipes and good hints and tips. Well designed and easy to use, although I find some of the recipes are quite lengthy in comparison to similar recipes in the Baby led weaning cook book.

Would recommend to families with children who are preparing to wean.

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment 29 May 2013
By sian
Format:Paperback
I bought this book after reading the reviews. Rather than looking for a BLW cookbook I was looking for finger foods and recipes for the whole family to enjoy (which blw recipes tend to be). I couldn't decide on just one book and bought three, and this is the one I wish I hadn't bothered with. The recipes are accompanied by childish sketches which tell me how many adults/ children they cater for (sorry but they annoy me!), and the photos of the recipes are v poor quality, the finished results are not appetising. The recipes themselves are boring- there are even recipes for cereal (sprinkle a few flakes in a bowl and cover with milk- just in case you didn't know), and toast. Maybe I'm sounding harsh but this book really doesn't appeal to me and I don't understand the five star reviews that convinced me I should buy it. If, like me, you are looking for a family cookbook go for the 'river cottage baby & toddler cookbook', it is worth five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy Discoveries Baby-Led Weaning Recipe Book 4 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback
As a Grandmother and looking after my Grandchildren i liked the sound of this book and thought it would be helpful to get me 'up to speed' with weaning (as it has been many years since i had to do it) and wow did i find it helpful and very informative. I can cook a single meal for us all, and the leftover recipes are a great idea. The meal planners for different stages will be good as they get to grips with solids, I am finding the tips and tricks from the authors very helpful as they have clearly been through this with their own children.
Thank you Felicity and Emma
