Product Description

Synopsis

The film star Yul Brynner was also an accomplished photographer whose work appeared in "Life" magazine and was praised by Henri Cartier-Bresson and others. In this book, Brynner's daughter presents a collection of his pictures taken between the 1950s and the 1980s. They include behind-the-scenes shots of celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Charlton Heston, Sophia Loren, Roddy McDowall, Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, Ingrid Bergman, Jean Cocteau and Anatole Litvak, as well as photographs of Brynner's family. There are also pictures of exiles which he took while serving as a Special Consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees. The photographs are accompanied by reminiscences from many of the people in them.

Firstly, this review is long overdue having bought this book for a friend with a big birthday last month. I bought this supposedly "new" book in good faith, however was so embarrassed when my friend flicked through his gift to realise it was in face used, with the back spine in a terrible state. Very, very disappointed as it was not a cheap book!

A Wonderful Actor, An Even Better Photographer 25 April 2000
By Lee Kanne - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Yul Brynner was a very good actor. A lot of people know that. What most people don't know is that he was also a brilliant photgrapher.
This book is just beautiful. It has pictures of Yul himself, taking pictures of other people; Yul's family; and of course, what we all want to see, photos of his famous friends. Only he could photogrpah Liz Taylor, swimming in the pool with her daughter, without any makeup on, or Deborah Kerr standing with a color palet over her head, while the director of "The King And I" tries to decide what color her hair will be in the film. His daughter, who edited the book, wrote that her father was charmed by Ingrid Bergman's beauty, and it certainly shows - we see some wonderful, candid pictures of this great actress in the book, too. Also included are pictures taken on the sets of his famous movies - "The Ten Commandments", "Anastasia", "The King And I", and "The Magnificent Seven", and pictures of his celebrity friends, including: Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Charlton Heston, Jean Cocteu, Kay Kendall, Charlie Chaplin,Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth, Richard Burton and Salvador Dali.
My favourite photos, however, are of his (later ex) wife, Doris. You can see that he really loved her - like he loved each and every one of the people he photgraphed. They trusted him, and gave them the best gift possible -his art.

Captivating Coffee Table Book 10 Oct. 2004
By Nelson Aspen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
The wonderful Brynner's excellent photography is showcased here with a great assortment of pictures, assembled by his daughter. She tends to overdo it with her prose, as I suppose any adoring daughter would, but the moody B&W images are the star here...so skip right to them and enjoy a glimpse back at the times captured by the talented actor/photographer.

This is a wonderful and classic collection of photos from the past of our favorite movie stars and film producers. The book is well composed showing private moments, in depth character studies, portraits, and on set scenes. A very tasteful tribute to an amazing era of the entertainment Industry.
I enjoyed reminiscing my years gone by at the movies and will continue to do so in the years to come. Thank you Victoria for sharing these private moments with us.

Rare look into a mysterious actor's life 17 Jan. 2013
By Mary Paulos - Published on Amazon.com

I was one when the King and I debuted on Broadway. I was not until years later that my mother took me to the movies to see the King and I. I had never seen anything like that. I made my mother dance me around the house for weeks. I don't remember many other Yul Brynner movies except Anastasia and then his posthumoAls smoking add. So the movie was on TV I watched it and wondered where on earth did this man come from...who was he where did all the talent come from. His bio Yul The Man who would be King was written by his son so you get and insight into the family, like water skiing at Busch Gardens. Also his incredible energy and desire to learn. He went to Northwestern. Next is his kindness. Strict but kind. I loved the photography book and his biography. I highly recommend this book and his biography Yul the man who would be king.It is a fascinating read or listen
A daughter's love for her Dad. 18 Jun. 2015
By Nina - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
A daughter's love for her father, yes he was sexy, a great actor but after reading several books about him, above all he was a DAD.. He always
made time to be with his children, even from different marriages somehow he made them stayed together. Too bad he never got to see his grandchildren. Very talented man, I'm sure that if he would have decided to quit acting ,being a Director, etcetera, etcetera, he could have been
a great Photographer. Long live the King.
