The scope is well made from Belarus and about the size and weight of a Coke can. It's incredibly simple to use and focus. I have used 3rd gen military sights and goggles and whilst this is in a lesser league , the image is very good and only has minimal distortion at the edge of vision (although not as clear or bright as in the Yukon website!) particularly in comparison with old 1st gen sights I have used (IWS) and of course is far smaller and lighter. I can easily pick out my dog at 50 metres in a dark wood at night in normal intensifier mode, and double that or more if I switch the IR mode on (also as her eyes shine back brilliantly). The IR itself shows as a dull red glow at the front when switched on (ie. would be seen by a human at 20 metres) but it projects no visible light and doesn't seem to get noticed by wildlife. I would recommend this version as you need at least x3 mag to get a good picture that doesn't make things look too far away (a common issue with all II) and for me being waterproof is a must for anything that you would take outside in the UK! All in all a good gadget for the price that I would recommend, but don't expect it to make "night look like day."

Excellent Night Scope 19 April 2006

This scope is one of the best Gen 1 units on the market. At 36 lines/mm, it has just about the best resolution. Most other units only have 24 lines/mm. The illuminator is bright (almost too bright), uniform, and has a crisp edge. It could be a bit larger, however, so that it would fill the field of view.

Note that if you remove the eyepiece or lens, (to put on the riflescope eyepiece or change the magnification) you will break the seal and the unit will no longer be waterproof.

Don't bother with the IR flashlight. Its output is actually less than the built-in illuminator and it is far from uniform.

I am very impressed by the Yukon monocular. It is extremely easy to use and the clarity is excellent. I researched a lot of monoculars and this had the best review and lives up to those standards.

Got this item shipped very fast. Works as advertised but the instructions say it is "water resistant" not water proof as listed in the ad. The batteries it uses are a little expensive. Overall very happy with this item
