Product Description

Product Description

A creepy thriller from bestselling novelist James Patterson.

Nanny and amateur photographer, Kristin, is plagued by a horrifying recurring nightmare. In the nightmare she arrives at the aftermath of a shootout where she spies four bodies and a detective, and she can't help but photograph the ghastly scene. The following morning she is greeted with this very same scene as she walks to work.
Kristin's life is complicated: her lover Michael is a married man, and the father of the children she looks after. His wife is a nasty, icy woman. But things are set to get worse. She starts seeing and photographing the ghosts of dead people on the streets of New York. Yet in her photographs the bodies appear to be transparent, just like the bodies in her nightmare. Kristin feels like she's going mad, nothing seems to make sense...

3.0 out of 5 stars An average supernatural thriller, 7 Nov 2007
By KM (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This review is from: You've Been Warned (Hardcover)
'You've Been Warned' is James Patterson's 5th book that he has released in 2007 and this time he has had a go at the supernatual thriller genre for a change, teaming up with Howard Roughan.

The story begins when hopeful photographer, Kristin Burns is a nanny for the Turnbull family and is also having an affair with the husband of the family. Kristin then begins getting shocking and terrifying nightmares everyday and weird things start happening all around her, including seeing people who have been dead for a while. This then sets Kristin on an investigation into what the dreams mean and find out the truth behind these strange sightings, by using her trusty camera.

This book has it's good and it's bad points. First the good - it's fast-paced and quite exciting and you'll find yourself flying through this book in no time at all. The characters are pretty good and the mystery will keep you hooked and thinking the whole way through. The main bad point is that the ending is pretty rubbish and very predictable and will leave you feeling a bit disappointed once you've finished it.

Overall it is a fairly decent read that is full of twists and excitement, as you'd normally expect from a Patterson novel. The downside is that if you're after a good Patterson novel, it's not as good as his Alex Cross or Women's Murder Club series. And if you're after a good supernatural thriller you're better off reading a Stephen King, Dean Koontz or a David Ambrose. If you're after a quick, easy and enjoyable read - give it a go. If you're after a deep, involving and memorable book - look elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars I don't need to tell you how great Patterson is, 19 Sep 2007
This review is from: You've Been Warned (Hardcover)
Kristin Burns is on her person quest of the American Dream a career as a photographer of the stars a man to share love and life and children to fill a dream home. She thinks she's found the man, the children and the home and her photography career seems to be on the verge of success. Now if the wife would just fade into the shadows. Kristin experiences bad dreams, waking with screams. On her daily journey to her job as a nanny, Kristin sees her dream come to life. But as horrible as the event, there's nothing in the papers or on the news. Why not? She took pictures with her ever present camera, but there's something wrong with the pictures. The dreams don't stop and neither do the real life events. When a stranger comes up to her with a warning, Kristin is forced to take notice. Edge of your seat suspense alternates with heavy breathing and sexual tension that culminates in a stunner of an ending. I don't need to tell you how great Patterson is, so I'll recommend another great author you don't wanna miss--Tino Georgiou and his fantastic novel The Fates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patterson scores!, 25 Sep 2007
This review is from: You've Been Warned (Hardcover)
This is the best Patterson I've read in a while, and I've read them all! I don't know if I can attribute the change to his co-author, Howard Roughan or the change in subject matter, but I read this book in just one morning! Once the kids were off to school, I made a cuppa, and the next thing I knew it was lunch time and I was nearly done!
There is the usual you would expect; murder, mayhem, love triangles, sweet children but beyond all of this is an aspect of Patterson's I've never seen before. (I'm not giving away any secrets - you'll have to read it for yourself!)The short punchy chapters keep you wanting more and more and make for an easy read, as usual, but the subject matter, the absurdity of it, just makes you want to carry on reading to see what happens next.
Don't miss this one!
Bravissimo Mr Patterson - Encore Encore Encore
Thanks to my daughter Danielle in America for sending it to me as soon as she finished with it -
