CD Description

· When it came to tough, snarling, mod-into-freakbeat sounds, legendary mid-Sixties act the Sorrows had few peers. Formed in Coventry, the band was signed by producer/A&R man John Schroeder to the Piccadilly label in late 1964. In the space of little more than a year, they cut a superb album as well as a clutch of menacing, thrillingly essential 45s, including the iconic `Take A Heart' (the band's only chart success) and its equally incendiary follow-up, `You've Got What I Want'.

· Adding a slightly revised line-up's blistering 1967 single `Pink Purple Yellow And Red' b/w `My Gal' to proceedings, You've Got What I Want: The Essential Sorrows 1965-67 does exactly what it says on the tin, eschewing the more marginal outtakes, phonetically-learnt foreign language recordings and post-band demos that have diluted previous collections in favour of collecting top-of-the-range, primetime Sorrows on one handy little silver disc.

· Featuring a dazzling 16-page booklet that contains previously unpublished photos, new liner notes and quotes from band members Don Fardon and Wez Price, You've Got What I Want is nothing less than pure sonic overload from one of the most dynamic garage bands of the era...

JUST SOME EXCELLENT R&B SCENTED 60S BRITPOP/..30 TRACKS BY A BAND MOST AMERICANS BARELY HEARD..VERY UNDER-EXPOSED AND UNDERRATED BAND..THEY GOT ALMOST ZERO EXPOSURE IN THE U.S. CERTAINLY AMONG THE BEST BANDS YOU NEVER HEARD OF THIS GENRE..AND MOST EVERY TRACK IS WORTHWHILE.. AN EXCELLENT COMPANION TO THE OLD REPERTOIRE CD, WHICH HAS THE EURO-TRACKS PRETTY WELL COVERED..THIS IS AS GOOD A SINGLE CD COLLECTION AS I HAVE SEEN ..WELL WORTH THE RIDE IF YOU LOVE 60S POSTBEAT DONE UP RIGHT/ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED/ ....BRITMAN 46

Sorrows - 'You've Got What I Want: Essential Sorrows 1965-67' (Cherry Red) 11 May 2011
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Thirty track compilation of this obscure British '60's freakbeat band's (looks like) entire repertoire. Tunes that more than did it for me were "I Don't Wanna Be Free", "Come With Me", the Renald Richard-penned "Teenage Letter" (both edits), the two versions of "Let The Live Live", the awesome "She's Got The Action" and "Cara-Lin". Comes with a must-see informative 16-page booklet and thoughts from Sorrows members Don Fardon and Wez Price. Recommended for fans of the Animals, early Stones, the Liverbirds and the Creation.
