2.0 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH THE MONEY 7 April 2008
By Joiner
Format:Paperback
I was, frankly, disappointed in this book. What other reviewers have said about it says more about their level of ignorance in the subject - and that's just a statement of fact - a situation I find myself having to face at least once a month (on average) during my working life as a joiner specialising in older properties and having to explain why the cowboy they got in to do the job I've now been called in to rectify had ripped them off, although it's far more likely to have been the 'developer' who pillaged the place when he/she 'modernised' it!

I think had the price been more what the book is actually worth in terms of its content I might have been a little less harsh, but given that Pamela Cunnington's 'Caring For Old Houses' comes in at the same price, Paula Sunshine's book is a rip-off. Cunnington's book is a mine of information for EVERYONE regardless of their level of knowledge (you can never know it all) or practical construction skills, it is packed with information and illustrations.

The only reason I gave Paula Sunshine's book two stars was because she does look quite stunning on the cover, but for all practical purposes I would have preferred a better view of the window she's draped across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading 28 Aug 2006
By Griffy
Format:Paperback
If you own, or are thinking of buying a timber framed house this is essential reading. It has helped me no end in understanding my house, how to look after it and how to reverse some of the vandalism inflicted upon it by previous unenlightened owners.

4.0 out of 5 stars First class introduction book 1 July 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I found the book to be most useful and very well written from a lady who does know her stuff. An excellent book for anyone who is considering purchasing a timber framed building. It is written in plain English and I enjoyed it very much.
