Absolutely Fabulous, 7 Jan 2005
This review is from: Youth Bible: New Century Version (Collage) (Bible Ncv) (Hardcover)
I got this bible about a year after I'd been what you'd call a 'serious christian'. But I hadn't been reading my bible everyday like perhaps I should have been. The reason for this is that I had a bible where I couldn't understand most of the important things it was trying to tell me, and secondly I had no idea where to start reading. Then I began to realise that my bible needed to change. I looked and found this! This bible actually made me want to read my bible, I turn every page with excitement and wonder at what I'm about to read. It has amazing life files which really help in everyday life, subject to young people and teenagers. It is also simple to read and so helps me with my somewhat new and exciting relationship with God. I seriously recommend this to every young person out there, it is absolutely fabulous!!

I was given this translation as a present for my 12th birthday and the whole presentation and wording just made reading the bible more exciting. I'm now 14 and I still feel the same -I really believe finding the right translation can make a difference to how enthusiastic you are about reading the bible and I'm so glad I've found this one! Its so clear and easy to understand...the best present I've ever been given!
Sometimes the bible can seem unrelevant because of the old-fashioned and sometimes even complex language. This youth bible helps you to understand the relevance to life today. It contains 'sidelights' throughout it which are facts and notes (for example...'mentioned previously by Paul in Ephesians') which help you to understand why things happened. These really helped put what I had read into perspective.
There are also study aids at the beginning of each book that put the book into context. The aids contain maps and information on the writer and (when relevant) the political state of the holy land at the time. Using this I can put the book into context.
Throughout the bible, there are 'life files' on 80 subjects, (for example...marriage...sin...freedom...drugs) which show the reader what is being said in the passage and help them understand it and relate it to their life. It then gives prayer ideas and suggestions of who to talk to about it and where else to read up on the same subject, I found these very interesting and I enjoyed seeing a different point of view.
I loved the clear translation and layout of the Youth Bible and I would recommend it to anyone!

God's word for youth, 22 Feb 2008
This review is from: Youth Bible: New Century Version (Collage) (Bible Ncv) (Hardcover)
This was my first real "grown up" bible and I got it when I was 13. At the time I had just moved to a new country and a new high school and was struggling with the pressures that come with being a teenager.
This Bible is structured in a way that appeals more to teenagers. It has a slightly adjusted translation, which I must admit sometimes annoyed me as it wasn't how I remembered from being a kid, but in many ways it is much better suited to young adults. The English used is more modern and it is a lot easier to understand, whilst still being an accurate translation of the original scripts.
At the beginning there are suggestions on how to use the Bible as a tool in your relationship with God and how to use this specific translation. There are also suggestions for usage within groups and for Bible study, and then of course there are the life files. Split into sections such as death, discouragement, eternal life, fear, god's love, honesty, jealousy, loneliness, parents, persistence, self esteem, stress and worship to name but a few, these sections tell stories of teenagers who have struggled with these specific issues and how they have overcome them. With questions and references to certain areas of the bible, these are fantastic ways to find a scripture which helps you to understand how you are feeling and to learn what God says about it. There are also 'sidelights' scattered throughout the book which shed a little more light on the passages that you are reading including historical references and interesting facts about it.
At the back of the Bible, there is also a detailed dictionary of people and places and words within the bible, including references back to the word.
I would recommend this if you are a teenager, or even if you are older (I'm 20 now and I still use this bible) or working with teenagers.
No matter what your background, this is still most importantly a bible, and all that matters is that you are able to read and understand god's word to you.
God bless and good luck :)
