Danish is not the most widely spoken of languages - you'd therefore be forgiven for thinking that your options would be limited if you're going to learn it - and you'd be right. While there is a vast array of books for more popular languages such as French and Spanish, you might find only one or two for Danish. Luckily, the books that are available are good, very good in fact. This one will take you from the very basics and gradually progress until you can read, write and talk to quite a proficient degree about a wide range of subjects. Each chapter deals with different topics and introduces new vocabulary in easy to learn conversations which you can listen to on the tape and follow along in the book. Every new word introduced is clearly given in a list after the conversation along with its translation. There are sections dealing with rules of grammar and pronounciation along with interesting background facts about Denmark. There are only two real drawbacks - one, while there are a lot of words, phrases and rules of grammar given, there's still room for more - it would be nice if there was a second book to follow this one. And two, the exercises at the end of each chapter could be improved with more written practice given. Overall, this is a fun and interesting way to learn Danish and will have you understanding a surprising amount very quickly. Well worth getting.
