Product Description

Product Description

Although it is aimed at those with no previous knowledge, this course is equally suitable for anyone wishing to brush up existing skills and aims to help users progress from the basics to understanding, speaking and writing Danish with confidence. Key structures and vocabulary are introduced in 18 thematic units progressing from introducing yourself and dealing with everyday situations to talking about work and shopping for presents. The book follows the journey of George Wilson, a businessman, who travels to Denmark to establish a market there for his products. He has been invited to stay with friends who live in Copenhagen. The emphasis is on communication throughout with important language structures introduced through dialogues on the accompanying recording. There are plenty of exercises to practise the language as it is introduced and tips throughout to help with pronunciation and grammar. Cultural information sections give useful advice and information for anyone planning a trip to Denmark. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

No sound... 23 Jun 2003

Format:Paperback
An excellent learning resourse, but given the complex Danish pronounciation, prospective learners should consider complementing the book with its accompanying cassette.

I've started learning Danish with this book and I think it's great! You DO need the tapes if you want to get anywhere. But the exercises, drills, etc. are great in my opinion (I HAVE BEEN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER FOR YEARS).

This kind of book is better approached with a "no rush" attitude and you will get better benefits. Also have the TEACH YOURSELF NORWEGIAN and I think these books are worth the money. But remember! It all depends on you! It's not fair to give it up and then blame it on the book... :)

Learning danish 1 Dec 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have found this book very challenging to work with. When I bought both the book and the accompanying cassette I was a little disappointed. The book itself is very good for explaining the grammar in the danish language but I found that the cassette does not play some of the conversation dialogues in each chapter which I would have found useful. The cassette was a little disappointing too.Anyone who has learnt danish will know just how hard it is to pronounce some of the letters and for me the tape does not go deep enough into the actual knowledge of pronouncing these letters. I also found that the speakers in the conversation speak very fast at times and I do not feel that this was at a level suitable for beginners. However, my efforts to persevere must have paid off because I am now able to write reasonable letters in danish to my danish relatives and on visiting them recently they said that I had done well to reach a reasonable level in 8 months!!I have managed to use this book and cassette only through making time and effort and would advise anybody thinking of buying it that they will need to commit time and patience because this is certainly not the idiot's guide to learning danish!!!
