To publish some 40-50 years of ones personal correspondence takes bravery. In this book we see Gareth's personal opinions and ideas laid bare, not in a way that tires the reader, but in a steadily unfolding display of wit, candor, and literary skill I only wish I had. Esoteric students rarely see "behind the scenes" in esoteric society, much less get to be privy to the conversations one might hear if one were a "fly on the wall". Much to be digested for those with "an eye to see". We can only hope that the autobiography mentioned takes form in the physical quickly, and that the Gods of the keyboard look favorably on us all with several new books in the coming years from Gareth.

Yours Very Truly is a collection of letters by Gareth Knight, which will provide both insight and entertainment for those interested in magic, the Qabalah, the vagaries of esoteric publishing and a vast array of literary and intellectual subjects. Knight crafts a good old fashioned epistle, almost always erudite but so often full of humour and acerbic wit also. Come and share in the human side of one of the most respected and accomplished figures within the Western Mystery Tradition.

"I suppose you can at least feel what it is like to be a lone voice crying in the wilderness - I think even John the Baptist, in time, would have packed up his traps, said `Sod it' (or `Sod them') and gone home, maybe to start a locust or wild honey farm."

The letters span some forty years, beginning in 1969 with a letter to the poet Kathleen Raine. Other recipients include R. J. Stewart, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, Alan Richardson, Ronald Hutton, John and Caitlín Matthews, Wendy Berg, Sir Michael Dummett and Warren Kenton.

After reading and enjoying a number of Gareth's books and knowing his involvement in various esoteric societies I purchased "Yours Very Truly" expecting an interesting read. The book consists of a number of letters between Gareth and a variety of people, some of which I had heard of, many of which I had not. If you are well acquainted with Gareth and the people in this book then no doubt it is a fascinating read, for me however, being quite uninformed, it was dry at times. Having said that, I would still very much recommend this book to those interested in Gareth and the societies he has been involved with as there are a number of golden pieces of information.

I enjoyed this book. Having read many of Gareth Knight's titles over a long time I found it very interesting to 'peek in' as it were on his correspondence and see how his views changed or were reinforced over the years. Not being an autobiography reader I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did.
I found it threw more light on areas that he has written about over the years and I would be fascinated to see in print the book on crystals, angels and cosmic forces etc.that he has being mulling over for quite a time.

Just like being a confidant 21 Jan 2011
By Paul Clark - Published on Amazon.com

Reading this book is like being in the confidence of the author! It is amazingly full of true esoteric teaching. Gareth Knight (Basil Wilby) has influenced a whole generation of Esoteric teachers and students for the good. Here it is most apparent, what a wise, objective and experienced guide he is. As you read "Very Truly Yours," you share in this guidance. Well worth the purchase. A great addition to any serious library of the Western Mystery Tradition.

Fascinating Reading 19 Jan 2011
By CyhBrown - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book contains 136 of Gareth Knight's letters written between 1969 and 2010. Included are letters to some 70 correspondents including many to other well-known magical writers, and spiritual teachers. The letters make fascinating reading ~ not only do we gain insight into the work and influence of one of the key figures in the modern rebirth of the magical way, but the book stands as a testament to his generosity of spirit, good sense, and dedication to helping others find their way through the labyrinth of magic and spirituality. Highly recommended!

A VERY INTERESTING READ 4 Jan 2011

How often do we get a peek inside an authors mind to see what he or she thinks about various topics in the esoteric world?
This collection of the letters of Gareth Knight written to such leaders of the esoteric world as Wendy Berg, Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki, and others, should be read carefully, savoring the nuances of idea and opinion. It is not a how-to-do-it book on magic, but a definite insightful look atMr.Knights views. Very much one to be read by all, especially the many who have enjoyed his writings over the years.

The mind of a hermit 21 Jan 2011
By W. Paul Blakey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
As a participant in the Gareth Knight Christian Qabalistic Magic course in the late 1970s, (I managed to complete all three degrees) I was very interested to see what was in Mr. Wilby's mind over the years. Though I attended several Hawkwood meetings, I was never close to GK, and (as revealed in the letters) this was not something he encouraged in any case.

If you have an interest in GK and his writings, then I think you will find this book very illuminating, as it reveals a side that is fairly well hidden in his other books.

One thing that isn't mentioned is where the heck did he get that awful pink sweater?
