Book Description

The ebook BESTSELLER available for the first time in paperback! A funny, mischievous romantic comedy novel, perfect for fans of Lindsey Kelk, Jenny Colgan, Paige Toon or Sophie Kinsella

'Your bum does not look big in that dress.'

'Mmmm, this meal is delicious!'

'Of course you're better looking than Jon Hamm.'

Newly engaged Natalie Butterworth is an easy-going girl. She'll do anything for a quiet life and if telling a few teensy white lies keeps her friends and family happy, then so what? It's not like they'll ever discover what she's really thinking ...

Until one night, thanks to a pub hypnotist, Natalie's most private thoughts begin to bubble up and pop out of her mouth. Things get very messy indeed, especially when some sticky home truths offend her fiancé.

Natalie must track down the hypnotist before her wedding is officially cancelled. So along with bad influence bestie Meg, Natalie finds herself in the Yorkshire Parish of Little Trooley - a small village bursting with big secrets, nosy old folk and intriguing Wellington-wearing men.

When the girls get stuck in the village with no means of escape and no way to break the hypnotist's spell, Natalie is forced to face the truths she has been avoiding her whole life ...

This is a sparkling romantic comedy debut novel, written by the very talented founder of women's fiction review site novelicious.com, and noveliciousbooks.com, Kirsty Greenwood.

Natalie is the daughter of a neurotic mother who doesn't like being left alone, sister of Dionne who is a very attention seeking young lady who loves diamantes and bling and fiancee of handsome and prim and proper Olly who says she is almost perfect. Need I say more!

Natalie's dream has always been to run a restaurant, but she had to cut short her catering classes to look after her mother. The wedding has been booked rather quickly so mom and Dionne take charge and book all the things that she would never have chosen herself. However, because she is so worried about hurting people's feelings she goes through her whole life putting up with things.

That is until she is dragged along to a night out with her friend Meg, to see Amazing Brian the hypnotist and Meg is really keen to be chosen yet Brian has different plans and actually hypnotises Natalie instead to always tell the truth.

Now this doesn't sound like it would be a massive problem, but I can assure you it is! This new way of life of being really honest is causing havoc in her life so she traipses off with Meg to Little Trooley in search of Amazing Brian to get him to stop this charade and return her life to normal. What she doesn't bargain for is that Brian isn't at home and also the new friends she makes at the village pub and one in particular - a big handsome hunk called Riley!

I can honestly say that this book was a complete and utter pleasure to read. Hilarious throughout with moments where I laughed out really loud and snorted at the same time - a delightful picture! Kirsty Greenwood appears to have the same sense of humour as I have, so it fitted really well with me and I read the whole book with a great big smile on my face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original Comedy, Fabulous! 19 Jan. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I believe anyone can relate to Natalie Butterworth, I certainly did. How many times have you been in a situation where you wish you'd spoken your mind, and because you didn't you'd be mad with yourself? Even the first scene in the hairdressers, my goodness, I've been there too and what did I do? I said I liked my hairdoo, paid and left. But that was long time ago, it would never happen now.

Natalie is very likeable and funny but is afraid to cause offense to anyone by not telling them how she really feels. Her Mum and sister's idea of a wedding and a wedding dress makes Natalie cringe but, she allows them proceed with the wedding arrangements. Natalie's fiancé, Ed, can't cook to save his life - she tells him she likes it and never says a word. But after a night at the pub with her friend Meg they meet a hypnotist called Amazing Brian. Brian tells his audience that he'd be hypnotising Meg, but instead by mistake, he hypnotises Natalie! Natalie is unaware that she has been hypnotised at that moment until she finds herself speaking her mind, giving her honest opinions about every question she is asked, if the truth hurts.

It's books like this why I love reading this genre, or why I return to reading this genre after stepping out of my comfort zone. You're guaranteed a laugh, a few wacky characters and a happy ending. This is a great debut and an unforgettable storyline about a theme that relates to us all. The truth shall set you free. Look forward to the next book from Kirsty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable! 30 Nov. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking for some good Christmas romantic comedies (after all, it is that time of year) and this book hit all the right notes. I'm so glad I gave it a whirl; it's warm, very funny and with a half decent plot. I really enjoyed the read and understand that this is the author's first effort, so hat's off to Kirsty for writing a gem! I would highly recommend that you add this to your Christmas reads, and if like me, it's Christmas romantic comedies you are after, I would also highly recommend I'm Dreaming of a Wilde Christmas (A laugh-out-loud romantic comedy) by Rhona T Pinkleton.
I look forward to Kirsty's next novel :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun debut! 29 Jan. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a light-hearted, funny, fast-paced debut novel by author Kirsty Greenwood. I didn't really now an awful lot about this novel when I downloaded it, but was recommended it and so thought it would give it a go. From the moment I picked it up, I was totally drawn in and instantly hooked. I read half of it in one sitting alone it was that compelling. The kind of fast paced-writing reminds me a little of Bridget Jones's Diary or the Shopaholic series, and the character of Natalie is always getting into the kinds of scrapes and capers that the main characters in those other novels do, and yet somehow, she discovers the strength within her to triumph in the end.

The supporting characters in this novel were also very strong. I found some of the interactions with Natalie's fiancée Olly a little difficult to read. I wanted to shout at Natalie that she shouldn't be letting him treat her like that and that she could do so much better for herself! But then that just shows how much greenwood draws her audience in.

Some of the things that happen in the story I found a little difficult to believe, but once I got involved in the kind of fairly tale aspect of the having been hypnotised storyline, I found the less believable things a lot easier to take on board. There is a moment where a break up is described in this novel and the author delivers such a perfect line, that just describes wonderfully the way you feel when you get that text or phone all telling you it's over, this was a totally winning moment of the novel for me and shows explicitly how in tune with her characters Kirsty Greenwood is... 'I hold the phone in my shaking hands, it feels heavy and clunky, like a phone from 20 years ago.
