Family comedy starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo. Admiral Frank Beardsley (Quaid), a widower with eight children, runs his family like a tight ship, but his orderly life changes course when he is re-united with his long-lost high school sweetheart, Helen (Russo), a free-spirited fashion designer with ten kids of her own. Frank and Helen plan to tie the knot, but with 18 children between them trying to sabotage the marriage, they discover that weddings - and the families - can't be built in a day.

I first saw this advertised at the cinema and could not wait for it to be released as it looked hilarious and I waited and waited but it never appeared at my cinema.Eventually, I managed to see it at a Saturday morning showing at my local cinema for kids long after the claimed release date but I have to say that the film was worth the wait!I won't bore you with the synopsis as it is told in full detail above but it was very funny in a similar way to Cheaper By The Dozen, another of my favourite movies and althought borrowing many jokes from CBTD it still had me laughing out loud! I strongly encourage you to give this great family movie a watch! You won't regret it!

Dennis Quaid plays Frank, an Admiral in the U.S. National Coastguard, a single father of eight, who's a disciplinarian and stickler for the rules. His kids range in age from about five to late-teens. The family have just moved to a new Navy posting in Connecticut and the Admiral's pals are trying to find him a new girlfriend.
One of his new neighbours is a single mother of ten, Helen White, who's played by Rene Russo. The life of her family is as disordered as the Admiral's family is ordered. For example, Helen's children wash the huge family pet pig in the kitchen sink.
Helen is the Admiral's ex-girlfriend, and both of them are coming out of failed marriages. They rapidly rekindle their romance, and inevitably have to figure out how to make a combined family of eighteen children work effectively. Frank's strict house rules don't go down well with Helen's kids, who are used to a laissez faire approach to family life, and so the parents have to devise stratagems to convert the two groups of children into one very big and happy family...
The two lead actors have very good chemistry, whilst the child actors make the most of their roles and are a likeable bunch. This is a very gentle family rom-com, and the growing relationship of Frank and Helen provides a nice backdrop to the travails of the two sets of kids, as they try to figure out the logistics of making two big happy families function as one huge family unit.
My twelve year old daughter loved this film and I found it a nice relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning. If you enjoy this type of movie, you'd probably also like Kurt Russell's Overboard - Overboard [Blu-ray] [1987].

Lighthearted, easy watching and that's about it for 'Yours, Mine and Ours'. It really is the less favoured siblng of the 'Cheaper by the Dozen' films and although the premise is different on paper, this film can't escape the comparisons. I'm not saying that it's bad or even badly acted, which it isn't, but it sadly lacks a decent storyline and the film predictably follows cliche after cliche to a very, you got it, cliched ending. There are also several points in the film where you question elements of the storyline - Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo meet after many years apart and spontaneously marry without meeting their future stepkids (of which there are many, for both parties) or even figuring out whether the arrangement could ever work with a horde of strange teens, pre-teens and young kids living under the same roof (seriously, who does that?) and you also wonder that instead of implementing a bathroom schedule, couldn't they have just bought a house with a lot more amenities and bathrooms for so many people.

I bought it on a whim and it'll do for a bit of brainless film watching but sadly it lacks any substantial storyline to go above or beyond that. It's not an awful film so that's why it gets 3 stars instead of 2.

The scenario - a single mom, a single dad, both with large families meet again after many years, having been childhood sweethearts.
The chemistry is still there, and they want to be one very big happy family, but the kids think different and set about breaking the happy couple up. You can probably guess the rest.
Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo are very believable in the lead roles.
The chaos and mayhem is great fun but there are some really cringey cheesy moments.
If you can put up with the cringe, a very good family movie.

Great family movie, funny, bit romantic but not over the top, a film worth seeing, i had this film a long time but somewhere along the time ive lent it out to friends and when i went to play it, there was no disc in the case, so rather than ask everyone i'd lent it to, i decided to re buy it, it was worth it as the price was very reasonable.

I bought this, as a replacement, my brother leant our copy to a friend, then couldn't remember who he leant it too! so I had to buy another, it was very cheap and although we haven't got round to watching it yet, I'm sure it will be fine, it arrived in excellent condition and a speedy delivery.

Not at all funny. Nowhere near as good as Steve Martin's Cheaper By The Dozen. I like Dennis Quaid but not in this film and Rene Russo is not at all good in this film, only in Lethal Weapon.
