Book Description

The best-selling You’re Hired! series now brings you Psychometric Tests

From the Author

James Meachin - a great deal of my work involves using psychometric tests for national and multi-national clients to help identify the best candidates. However, it is clear that some candidates are less 'test wise' than others, meaning that they under perform relative to their potential. This was the impetus behind this book - to enable readers to become savvy and confident candidates who can perform to the very best of their abilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars you're hired:psychometric tests 12 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
the book does exactly what it says on the cover........concise, really helpful/useful tips and wrote by authors who design these tests. contains many different variations of psychometric testing questions and key patterns and techniques to be aware of and ultimately improve your score. also section on personality tests.
Used the book when i recently went for a test and came 16th out of 600 applicants......this book can definitely add 10-15% to your score. a worthy investment to anyone serious about performing well in these tests.

4.0 out of 5 stars Took me by surprise 5 Jan 2011
By Jazz
Format:Paperback
Before buying this book I had completed some psychometric tests, and had not been very successful!
I purchased this book and used the example questions and advice given throughout. At the time I did not feel it had been very helpful, however I completed (what I felt were even harder) psychometric tests at a later date and passed with flying colours!

Since this book was my only learning material, it must have been doing something right!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to make you money 7 April 2010
By Joe W
Format:Paperback
Taking tests is nerve wracking and of course the more nervous you get the worse you do. This book, written by two psychologists who devise these things, shows you how you can improve your performance in some straightforward ways-including how to calm your nerves! Any book which can improve your chances of getting a job must be great value. Strongly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Start..... 12 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Helpful as a starter and getting you into the mindset of test-taking. The sections are a bit short so I would recommend buying supplementary books to help. If like me, number scare the F out of you, this will go a long way to making you feel better but it won't get you the higher marks. It was written in a really accessible way though, and the info about the why of psychometric testing was really helpful and fascinating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not perfect 23 Aug 2011
By Carlos
Format:Paperback
Practical book, specially if you have your test tomorrow and you've never sat a psychometric test before. The book, however, has a couple of problems. Some of the explanations could be better; for example; there are faster ways to reach the same answer and for a time-constrain test speed is essential. The authors could have suggested a time limit for the exercises and give an indication of how good was your score. If you really need to excel, you need this book and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychometric tests 9 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
Psychometric tests are used really often to allow employers to make direct comparisons between candidates and assess their suitability for the job so it's really useful to have some advice on how to get them right! You're Hired! Psychometric Tests is good as it tells you what sort of things the tests are measuring, but more importantly it's got loads of psychometric test practice questions to do beforehand!

4.0 out of 5 stars Helped settle my nerves 18 Sep 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I got this book to help with applying for graduate jobs and it has really helped me get a really good grip of psychometric testing. I've now successfully passed a couple of psychometric tests so I can certainly say that it helped. I was really apprehensive about the prospect of doing lots of these tests but it's certinaly helped calm me and ease me into the correct way of thinking.
My only slight reservation is I would have liked a couple more practice questions, as in a lot more, but they do point you in the right direction to find lots more so that's helpful.
In all, this is a great introduction guide to psychometric testing of all sorts and I would recommend it to anyone who is a little bit intimidated by the prospect of it all as I was. It's not as bad once it's all explained clearly like it is in this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Limited 16 Jan 2013

While there are some helpful tips in this books, the section on numerical reasoning is of limited value: the questions are far below the level of real graduate psychometric tests.
