5.0 out of 5 stars buy this book! 11 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
I absolutely loved this book. I thought it was the best book on how to write a c.v. that I've come across. I work as a career coach and found it was great to use with clients. I particularly like how easy it is to find your way through it. You can reference each section as and when you need it and each one has a summary of what's to come at the beginning and key points highlighted at the end. It works very well if you're pushed for time! I also think it really helps people with how to sell themselves, the real thinking side of ensuring that you come up with your achievements to impress an employer. If you're not sure where and how to start, begin with this book. You can't go wrong. It's more like a course than a book!!

How to write a brilliant CV - What I particularly liked about this book is that it is clearly written for the UK job market. I have been a contractor in the Financial Services industry for almost 15 years. I have been fortunate to have secured long term contracts with the top UK Retail Banks.

My CV had previously stood the test of the job market in the sense that I always secured a good contract.

As a result of the financial meltdown that we have experienced in 2008/09 - ???, I was of the opinion that prospective employers will be selective in reviewing CVs and the entire recruitment process.

I did some reserach and found a few guides on writing a brilliant CV. I reviewed them and decided on purchasing "You're Hired! How to Write a Brilliant CV".

I am glad I did. It is worth a lot more than I paid for it in terms of value for money. That is despite that fact that I have been writing my CV for several years. The book is a thorough, useful and effective guide, taking the user through various stages of writing a brilliant, glowing, well articulated CV.

I recommend this book to users at all stages, whether new to the job market or a seasoned CV writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Useful Resource! 4 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
As a recent mature graduate, I have found this book extremely useful for freshening up my CV and following through a logical process that has given me a better response to my job applications. The book enables you to consider various types of CV and more than that, it lets you make the decision which is best for your chosen type of work. This is useful because it relies on the reader's intellect to look at parts of their CV that they might not have considered before.

I have been applying for many different kinds of work and this book has helped refine the parts I hadn't thought about, from simple things like the presentation, the difference between chronological, creative and functional CV and leading onto the simple 'dos and don'ts' of when you get to the stage of sending them to prospective employers.

Whether you are starting from the very beginning - when it can be rather daunting! - and trying to work out what you should or should not include or even if you're just looking for an update to that all-important first step towards your perfect job, this is definitely recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book.... 11 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed this book. It has made very light reading about a subject that has been giving me a headache for a while and although my friends have said I need to get a life for enjoying it so much one of them has run off with it and I have had to buy a second copy to refer back to!! I also have a 16 year old daughter who is applying for part time jobs at the moment and it has been a great help for her to read it (after all she doesn't listen to me!) Delighted - Well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book 10 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
I would definately recommend this book to anybody who wants to progress in their career. As somebody who is looking for their first professional role, I have found this book enormously helpful in tackling all aspects of writing my CV. Not only does it deliver exactly what it says on the cover, but it also covers a wide range of approaches and templates, which enabled me to taylor my CV for the jobs which i want.

I found the advice and tips from experts in the career management and recruitment field extremely useful, as they helped me to see things from a potential employers point of view, and the practical activities really helped me in building the different sections of my CV.

The book is very up to date and I liked how its covers internet/email applications, which whilst looking for a book to assist me I found most other books on this subject do not.

The book is presented in accessible, step-by-step sections with clear examples, making it easy and enjoyable to read.

Since buying this book a few weeks ago, the feedback that I've had has been very positive, and i already have 2 interviews lined up. This book is definately more than worth the money I paid for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read 22 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
It's so refreshing to have such an insightful and comprehensive book on this well documented and opined area. The structure is easy to follow for both the first time job seeker and the seasoned professional - who may have forgotten some of the important basics. With the current economic climate creating so much uncertainty in the job market, you need every bit of help to make your cv stand out from the crowd. This book will definitely help you achieve this. Well done.
