Product Description

Product Description

Thyroid problems affect an estimated one in three of the adult population, yet they are difficult to diagnose on the basis of blood tests and often go undiagnosed for many year. This is the second, greatly updated and revised, edition of Dr Durrant-Peatfield's practical guide to recognizing the signs and symptoms of thyroid disease and to treating the problem with diet and natural supplements, in conjunction with modern western drugs and surgery when really necessary.

Thyroid Information 28 Oct 2009
By Hannah
Format:Paperback
Having been diagnosed 8 years ago with ME my daughter has struggled with everyday tasks which so many of us take for granted. She has not been able to work or have much of a social life, sometimes needing me to wash and help her dress. She did the Lightening Process (a neuro-linguistic process) and had a small limited taste of life as it should be lived only to relapse again. I joined a support group who advised me to read Dr. Peatfield's book and on looking at the symptoms of hypothroidism I can see she has virtually all the symptoms. It is a superb book which is understanding of the limitations of the NHS's blood tests and offers alternatives. If you would like to understand more about the endocrine/thyroid system I would most definitely recommend it. It gives hope to so many whose lives are without quality.

This book is excellent in the way it is written and the life saving content. After reading the book I also consulted with Dr. Peatfield, who is an exceptional, insightful and very kindly gentleman. Like many others I have suffered at the hands of the NHS for over 30 years (was put on thyroxin 20 years ago with no benefit) and now feel very hopeful as I embark on the adrenal support followed by the Armour thyroid. It is tragic and shocking that the General Medical Council so restricts G.P's today and I hope and pray that individuals will one day receive the treatment they rightly deserve and so badly need via their NHS G.P's. For years I have tried to tell G.P.'s the problem was my thyroid but as related by Dr. Peatfield in this book, if blood tests look normal they do not see the possibility of the synthetic thyroxin not actually working for the patient despite ongoing symptoms, which eventually leads to adrenal fatigue. The reasons are all very clearly explained in this book. If only more doctors would have the courage, knowledge and strength of character that Dr. Peatfield has to challenge 'the system', many more people would regain their health and maybe the General Medical Council would finally see sense. My offer to lend my G.P this excellent book was declined!

Having found Dr Peatfield after years of separate diagnosis and treatment from my GPs, including anti-depressants, cognitive behavioural therapy and HRT, I am now on the road to recovery. As part of the treatment, he recommended I read his book. At the time I though, of course he would! It makes money for him! But he has written a clear guide on the care and treatment of thyroid problems and the related problems. Even if you are not under his personal care, this book is essential to arm yourself with knowledge with which to achieve proper diagnosis and suitable treatment from your GP.
