Product Description

Amazon Review

This fantastic book is an absolute must for all first-time pregnant mums (and dads) as it gives you a complete picture of your pregnancy from start to finish. It is a comprehensive guide to everything that your body and your baby goes through during each week of pregnancy.

The book of course begins with what to look out for and consider when preparing for pregnancy, from health conditions to exercise and nutrition--it even deals with what the older woman should consider.

Then follows, just as the title suggests, a guide to your pregnancy week by week. Each week or chapter concentrates on the size of your growing baby, the size of you (!), changes and developments in your baby and changes that you would experience at each stage. It also concentrates on how your actions can affect your baby's development and gives you a handy tip for each step of the way.

The book gives you a focus for each stage of the pregnancy and is incredibly enjoyable to read. You come out at the end of the 40 weeks feeling well informed and prepared as it gives consideration to your worries and fears and physical state appropriate to each stage of your pregnancy. It is particularly fun to read how large your baby is at each stage--often compared to various fruit!--and what you can expect to feel at each stage. The book gives you a kind of connection with the little life that is growing inside of you. --Helen Humphrey, Editor, UKparents online

This is a great book, there's plenty to read for each week and plenty of information to dip into elsewhere. Also it's not as "doom and gloom" as many other books, which I think go on far too much about the things that can go wrong. Although it's important to know the signs of miscarriage etc, I feel some books mention the things that could go wrong far too often, whereas this book is much more positive and allows you to get excited about what's happening inside you. It's also a good book to show snippets to your partner (it even has "dad tips", such as buy your partner a present - what a great idea!)
I do think that you would need another book in addition to this one (some things you would want more detail on), but I love this book and enjoy dipping into it much more than my other books.

I bought this book after reading the positive reviews, here on Amazon. I was, however, disappointed by the mish-mash of presentation and the poor arrangement in terms of topics etc. 'Week by Week' is a great idea but some subjects need a chapter dedicated entirely to themselves- especially difficult issues, such as miscarriage and STD's. To randomly insert bits and pieces of this nature into various weeks is unnerving and unhelpful. Personally, I would rather turn to a specific chapter if I have worries about bleeding, rather than have two or three pages on miscarriage thrust upon me under the title 'Week 8'.

The images of the baby are one good point in this book, giving a helpful and enjoyable guide to size and development but overall I am searching for a better guide with presentation which allows the reader the choice to navigate its pages and themes more easily.

I am in my 30th week of pregnancy & this book was one of the first I bought. I read "my week" every Monday night, and look forward to finding out how big my baby has grown & what he is up to this week. HOWEVER...and it is a BIG however, each week there is a section saying how your actions may affect your unborn child, and also information on things that can go wrong. I have found that this information is rather scare-mongering & it alsmost seems as though the author is running out of points to make by 25 weeks or so, in the last four weeks I have read about fetal fatalities & cancer in the unborn child. Now I do understand that there are people who unfortunately have to deal with these sort of problems, however, they are rare and the context of this book makes them seem common. The general tone of the book is now reaching rather morbid stakes & is rather disappointing after all these weeks. Perhaps we could have had a shorter diary-like book for those of us who really want to know our pregnancy "week by week" and a dramatic addition to the book detailing what can go wrong, I suspect I know which would sell more...

The greatest strength of this book is the week-by-week format. It outlines specific changes that are pretty close to exactly as predicted. We noticed many of the things and then read them that week, ie. phlegmyness, inability to travel more than an hour and dryness at night just to name a few. This book is very well balanced and it tends to focuses more on the positives of pregnancy and not the possible complications. This is the 5th Edition of this book with millions of copies sold. Overall it is a great help. I definitely recommend it to all expectant couples. These authors also wrote a number of supporting or complimentary books:
