As time goes by and original discs get harder to acquire (and what the heck can you play 'em on?) good compilations of music hall material on CD are an invaluable way of hearing artists of the past. We are privileged in our time that we have the opportunity to see and hear for ourselves performers that we otherwise would only know by reputation. What would we give to hear George Leybourne or the Great Vance demonstrating what made them kings of the Halls of their time! Of the generation that survived into the era of sound recording... in the case of Dan Leno, only just, as he died in 1904.. we have some prime examples of their work in good, clean transfers from the originals.
Some of these discs will be available elsewhere but this CD is a pretty good start to a collection, excellent quality at a reasonable price. In particular I'd recommend "Don't have any More, Mrs Moore" and from G H Chergwin (billed as the white eyed kaffir)an odd number called the Jocular Joker...
