.....I bought 2 of these books as gifts for 2 different novice allotment holders. Having been a member of the Henry Doubleday Research Association, now Garden Organic, for many years I knew of the work and experience of Pauline Pears. She did not dissapoint with this book it's concise and informative, ideal for all, but especially for the new/novice gardener. I recommend the Garden Organic too, it's a great read and they are doing such wonderful work.

I bought this for my wife for xmas. She already has an organic allotment (for the last seven years).

Since I bought it impulsively without researching first it is my own fault, but the book was more basic than I had expected.

However, anyone who has just taken on an allotment or is thinking about it would find a great deal of useful information, and to those people I would heartily recommend it.

I have found this book useful as an organic gardener.

It has a lot of information in it, presented very clearly for the most part and gives a lot of useful advice on how to keep your organic land healthy and pest free. The diagrams of how to plan your garden to maximise yields and to encourage the right sorts of insects into your garden are extremely useful and well-thought out.

The only reason I do not give it five stars is that there is no really detailed, and yet simple, advice on how to manage a good crop rotation. This is something I have long struggled with and, to my disappointment, the explanation given in the book is not really very clear. Otherwise though, the book was really good. I just hope that they one day issue a revised edition addressing this slight weakness.
