Product Description

Today, 58 percent of American households consist of only one or two people, yet most cookbooks still contain recipes designed to serve 6-8. In this follow-up to the bestselling Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook, Beth Hensperger offers 125 new recipes specifically designed for the increasingly popular 1 1/2 to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker. This is the perfect book for busy singles and small families who want the convenience of a small slow-cooker-made meal without sacrificing wholesomeness and flavor.

I bought this book, having just acquired a small slow cooker and needing some recipe ideas aimed at its small capacity. The book is American so some of the terms may not be familiar to everyone and possibly some of the ingredients may be a little hard to find in some supermarkets. Some of the cuts of meat described, I have never heard of! Altough described as recipes for 2, some of the recipes do make very large portions and are designed for larger slow cookers. On the whole though, I have found the book very useful as there are useful tips on getting the best out of your slow cooker as well as the recipes.

Excellent recipes, good info, a few hard-to-find ingredients 19 Jan 2007
By M. Fairchild - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this after reading a recipe in our local newspaper taken from the book. It has some wonderful, original recipes, with clear instructions, and, even better, guidance about how to buy a small slow cooker and what you can do with it once you have it.

Most of the recipes are too large for the really small 1 1/2 quart slow cooker, though a few fit that size. Fortunately, each recipe includes a recommended cooker size in the instructions.

My only disappointment was that some of the recipes call for ingredients I cannot possibly find in my rural area grocery stores. But if you live in a city or metropolitan area you can probably find all the ingredients.

Finally, do not buy the "350 recipes" cookbook Amazon tries to bundle with this one in the "buy both" listing near the top of the page. It's really awful - I've reviewed it separately.

If you have a 3 quart slow cooker, you'll enjoy this cookbook.

Good Cookbook! 7 May 2007
By L. Alexander - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This cookbook was favorably reviewed in the San Francisco Chronicle, so I decided to buy it and a small slow cooker.

Of course, I bought a round slow cooker, before I read the cookbook (she recommends an oval one, so that turkey breasts fit nicely.)

I've tried three of the recipes so far - the Beef Stew Classico - one of the best beef stews I've ever had.

The Tomato Lentil Soup was very tasty. I like my lentil soup thicker (this one was broth-y), but that's minor.

The Pulled Barbeque Chicken was just wonderful - we all but licked out the pot.

There are another 30 or so recipes in the cookbook I'm planning to try, and I'll bet all of them will be worth making again.

This is a Fabulous cookbook! 6 Mar 2007
By J. JACKSON - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
These two authors know their stuff. Everything I have made from this book has come out much better than I expected. Every single recipe works just the way they say it will!! Yes, some are a little time-consuming, but all use fresh ingredients, no canned soups. I live in rural Hawai'i, no fancy gourmet shops here, yet I have no trouble finding all the ingredients called for. My husband and I are both astonished at how delicious our meals have been lately. Since I boght this book a few months ago I have used it exclusively. And I too have become a slow-cooker addict. Thank you Beth and Julie!
