Product Description

Being a left-handed child in a world geared to the right-handed majority can be challenging, and it can be very difficult for a right-handed parent to give early guidance in even the simplest everyday activities when approached from the wrong position. In "Your Left-handed Child," leading expert in left-handedness Lauren Milsom describes simple but effective strategies to help the very young through to teenagers overcome the many hurdles they might encounter at school and home. Help your younger child, for example, master the difficult tasks of handwriting, getting dressed and using cutlery, and your older child use woodworking tools or play guitar. With the invaluable advice in this book to hand your left-handed child will be confident and capable, and left-handedness need never become an issue.

I think that this book is great.

It covered so many things that I never thought about. I found it very informative and was written in a very down to earth manner - which I thought was great.

I think that because the author has both a right and left-handed child you get the point of view from an understanding parent as well a great athority in this field.

Being left-handed myself, it's great to read such a positive book especially when being left-handed was once so frowned upon.

Until you read this book, as a right hander you do not appreciate how even the basic activities can present a challenge to a left hander. This book provides useful tips as a guide to parents. However, the author does take it to the extreme, left handed kitchen knifes for kids. Not sure I would allow my right handed youngster handle a sharp kitchen knife. We live in a right handed world, so there needs to be some level of acceptance, that left handers will have to adapt, tools, screwdrivers, car ignition. The key activity for a young left hander is learning to write. There are various websites and accessories to support children, but let's not treat them as special. Worth a read.

I bought this book because I have two children who are left-handed and both my husband and myself are right handed. Although I found the book interesting to read I didn't feel that I was learning anything knew and felt that the book repeated itself a lot. Prehaps this book is more suited to a parent with a younger pre-school child.
