I enjoyed this book. Whilst to some it may be worrying to predict our chance of suffering from some personality trait or disease, this book actually reflects very well the challenges and complexity of genetic risk. It also addresses potential measures one can take to prevent some diseases through changes in our environment. Some genetic knlowledge is crucial for all of us as rapid changes are occuring in medical care and diagnosis. Medical therapies will soon be adapted to our genetic make up and genetic tests readily available for an increasing number of diseases. The book also gives insight into the interactions between our environment and our genes. With humour and examples of the up side to all genes - it avoids fatalism and a depressing feel.
The style is easy to read with real life scenarios introducing each disease or trait which most of us will feel familiar with. The scientific jargon is kept to a strict minimum so anyone can read it. Overall its a fun book-packed with facts that takes us through the role of genes in our lives from birth to death - I particularly liked and was surprised by the genetic influence on most aspects of our sexual behaviour and childhood behaviour. I gave it five stars.
