It's ok. Brings up important issues. 18 Feb 2009
By Mark W. Clay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A quick read, but not that well written. The author definitely knows his stuff but sometimes writes in doubletalk. The book is also biased toward using his services as a franchise consultant. But he did bring up important points that were worthwhile.
A great guide! 16 Jan 2012

This book was short and sweet, but that is all that was needed. What I appreciate the most was the author's honesty. Franchising isn't for everyone and every business, and Ralph spends a great deal of time in the book telling the reader why NOT to franchise. The intent of the book isn't really to tell you exactly what you need to know in order to create a successful franchise, but rather how to think about whether or not your business is right for franchising. It is a complex undertaking so after the book you will ask yourself "go or no go"...and if the answer is "go" then you will want to hire a professional to help you through the process. And if "no go" then the book has done it's job! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is considering franchising. For the small investment in time and money you could save yourself from a very big mistake...or start down the path to a very profitable adventure.
Good Overview: Generic but relevant 7 Feb 2011
By ricketmt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is well written and covers a topic that is pretty open to interpretation with honesty and relevance. The main thing to take away from this book is to decide if franchising is the path your business should take. The author is a franchise developer by trade, so you would think that his opinion that all business could be be franchised, but that is not his opinion. In fact he steers you clear of the idea unless you meet some individual criteria, and criteria from within your business.

Overall if you are searching for answers on where to take your business next, this book will give you an overall idea on what paths are available to you. It will cover the why's as well as the why not.
