Review

'Time de Lisle's 'Young Wisden' is a cracking idea. A guide to cricket for kids - when they can wrestle is from their parents' grasp, that is. Stats, laws and dates are all in here, but so are celebrated sledges, roly-poly captains and wacky wicket keepers.' --Time Out

'Incomparable really, different planet stuff. It is comprehensive without being bewildering, colourful but not showy, confident but never esoteric. It is also superbly designed.' --Wisden Cricketer

'packed with information and superbly designed, this is perfect for the youngsters who prefer Pietersen to Rooney.' --The Times

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for young cricket fan! 6 Sep 2009
Format:Hardcover
We bought this book when our son, 6 was gripped by the Ashes, he has had hours of pleasure from it and shared all sorts of information with us and his sisters (8 and 3). There is a lot of reading in it and I think would be suitable up to around 10 years old. The new version will be high on his birthday list I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent present for a young cricket fan! 28 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
This was a gift to our cricket mad 8 year old son. He has had hours of pleasure from it and it's helped me understand the world of cricket so that I'm not such a completely in the dark Mum and can enjoy a game of cricket with him now! It's without doubt his most favourite book in the world and he'd read it every night if I let him!

I got this for my son who is a cricket and stats fan. He already had the 2007 version and wanted an updated version. He read it in about 5 minutes but enjoyed the new features and updated statistics on matches that he had seen/heard (like the Ashes 2009 and 2010/11).
I would recommend this book for its readability, interesting layout and features, but it is very similar to the 2007 one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for young cricketers 13 April 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is an excellent publication for young cricket fans up to the age of 13. Colourful and full of facts, it easily absorbed my 10 years old relative for hours on end. I would recommend it as a suitable gift for youngsters who have an interest in the game, whether as players or spectators.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really excellent introduction to cricket 9 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book for my 7-year-old son, although I admit I read it from cover to cover before he was allowed to get his hands on it! A sockingly good introduction for youngsters, and plenty of factoids also for the seasoned fans among us. My son loves it and has barely put it down: he's taken to jumping out at me at random moments to ask me quiz questions or to quote statistics at me. I've warned him off the bit where Tim suggests practising catches in the house, though ...

All in all I'd thoroughly recommend this for any kids interested in the game (boys or girls: Tim is one of the few writers to recognise that women's cricket exists, and my daughter will be reading the book in due course), both for the quality of the writing and for the design, which is visually very appealing.
