Both series of The Young Ones are grouped together in this special DVD set, and theres plenty to enjoy. In among the violence, the anarchic comedy, and the wonderful childishness of it all, are many, many belly laughs. How about when The Young Ones represented Scumbag College on University Challenge, for instance? Or Alexei Sayles Balowski family? Or the occasional break so a band could be worked in to play a song?
The influence of The Young Ones has been notable since it was first broadcast, not least in the spawning of its sequel-of-sorts, Bottom. Yet the two series here prove to be far more than an opportunity to see where a particular strand of comedy really began to gather pace. Instead, they still provide many bellies full of laughs, and its arguable that, in spite of the imitators it spawned, nothing has come close to The Young Ones since. And this DVD collection more than proves the point. --Jon Foster

Like most other Young Ones fans who grew up in the early 80's, this has been one of my most eagerly awaited DVD's ever.
Presented over 3 discs, we have series 1 and 2 on the first two disc's whilst the third disc contains a couple documentaries which are interesting but could have been so much better had all the cast and Ben Elton taken part.Still its not a great problem as its the programs that we are interested in more than the extras. Also Demolition' and 'Summer Holiday' contain a full audio commentary by Paul Jackson. They are presented FULLY UNCUT and that includes the episode Boring which has several what we would now call racist terms spoken by a policeman (abit to a white person) which almost never gets shown on TV. All the music interludes are included too which again were missing from previous releases. All in all this is a superb box set which should not be missed.

I watched this as a teenager and loved it. Now with 2 sons who share my sense of humour
I have passed on this classic to the next generation. My kids and I sit together and laugh at the anarchic, slapstick world of these 4 crazy, lazy students. Mild swearing so not suitable for young children.

We saw part of an episode on tv and decided to take the plunge and buy the whole lot, just as funny today as it was then. The times may have changed and you may have to explain some of the political references, but there are still charaters like this in every student residence around the country! My eldest is actually looking forward to living as a student if life can be like this!!!
This was my first exposure to alternative comedy and I'm really pleased that it's just as off the wall to my kids as it was to me then! No there isn't any real point to any of it, but that was the whole point!!!
