Young MC has found a place in most DJ's playlist under the 'Play in an empty-dancefloor emergency', but I think the guy deserves more credit then that. Young MC took a rap, ruled at the time by by NWA and Public Enemy, and showed cynics and would-be gangsters alike that there is another way without constant reference to guns, the hood and a rep from dealing out violence.
Hilarious, clean-cut and undoubtably talented, Young MC deserves a place in Rap Hall of Fame as a man who refused to any other way than his own. Buy it, play it loud and remember the MC they called 'Young'.

I bought this album on vinyl probably around 1988 as i'd heard a couple of tracks and the absolute classic 'Know How' in clubs and stuff. The laid back and smooth tempos that this guy oozes are just the best and when i had one of my 'searching the web for my fave songs' days, it dawned on me I just had to have this CD in my collection. His approach to rap is that it doesn't need to include gang warfare, drugs, racial issues and alike but more of a social even comical aspect which appealed to me greatly. In conclusion, this is defo one of my all time favourites and one I won't get tired of listening too. Buy it!

How anyone can have used the words 'Explicit Lyrics' in conjunction with this album is beyond me. I suppose that rap is stereotyped with being gangster and having little else to express itself than profanity. Not the case, particularly not with Young MC.
This album features a solid gold dance floor classic 'Know How', a first track with more hooks than a fisherman's box 'I Come Off', and does not contain a single swear word. The fantastic fresh lyrics cover subjects as diverse as love, school suspension, and losing out on the lottery.
The rapping is high quality - fast, tight and crisp - and if you buy one album today, buy this - it kicks ass! (sorry for the explicit lyric)

This album is so frickin' good. It's funky and feel-good. If your not moving with a massive smile on your face by the end of the first song you have no soul. Great lyrics, great rhymes, great album
I have to be honest here, I am late in getting the album I had heard a couple of songs but could never catch who they were by. I heard him on 6Music and cought the name and rushed out and got the album. Everyone should have this album.

Bought on the back of 'know how' but loads of really well produced, pretty uplifting hip-hop.
Good tunes! I would definitely recommend it. Even though it's pretty old
