A No Brainer Rating 29 Oct 2009
By Spudman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Rating this book five stars was a no brainer for this reviewer because the book is that good.

In this volume Young Genius shares information about the brain's anatomy, the brain's functions, the brain's needs, and related topics such as diet, learning, sleep, and mnemonics. Brain is a book of surprises, dispensing information in so many ways and formats that no two pages in the book look the same. On one page a wall screen is pulled down by the little mouse hanging on the ring at the end of the pull cord. On another page is a brain with a movable flap demonstrating the left and right sides of the brain. Then there are pages of brainteasers, brain matching, and a full page demonstrating a way to memorize that Saturn has rings. On almost every page there's the little mouse participating in the page's lesson. The book concludes with a brain riddle (How do two brains say good-bye? ) and a page about a brain surgeon career. I mention the location of the brain doctor page so readers can avoid surgeon for it.

I like that the author and artist never seem to lose track of the readers' ages. Complex terms are explained in simple language, amply reinforced with the graphics. Lennard's use of simile is wonderful too.

There is much to like about this wonderful little book, one that warrants multiple rereadings.

My son and my review 24 May 2012
By Warren Sutton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read this with my seven year old son. He really liked it. We also read "How Does Your Brain Work" by Don Curry and "The Brain: Our Nervous System" by Seymour Simon in a similar time frame, but my son enjoyed this book the most. My son was the one who wanted to give it the 5 stars. He really enjoyed some of the images like how if you ironed out the wrinkles of a brain it would be enough to make an alien outfit. Personally I thought some of these types of comparisons were perhaps a bit misleading, but then I'm not the target audience and at this level engagement is the key. The book included a pop up part which demonstrated the left and right sections of the brain and he enjoyed this. We wrote this review as a collaborative effort.

Young Brains 2 April 2009
By Sunstar - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this book for my 5-year-old niece, and she loves it. The pictures are really bright and colorful, and she learned a lot about the human brain and nervous system. She reads it almost every day and remembers a lot of the information later. I would recommend this book to any child with an interest in the human body.
