Product Description

When sixteen year old Poppy Douglas writes a song about her ex-boyfriend Cam and ex-friend Nikki, she has no idea that her heartbreak is about to go global.

A local band picks up her song from Youtube and soon she's along for the ride with her own fanbase as they blow up on the local club scene and hit the international charts. Though it turns out leaving Cam behind isn't as easy as she had hoped.

Tangled in a web of unfinished homework, ill-considered sexting and a new lead-singer boyfriend, Poppy has a choice to make between the ex that inspired it all and the rock God whose poster lines the inside of half the lockers at school. But as she struggles to keep her emotional dirty laundry private, she learns that the truth can be hard to find when your life is in the headlines.
WARNING: Sexual references, occasional coarse language.

About the Author

Sarah Billington is an Australian writer and editor who likes to write stories with love, laughs, suspense and zombies. Sometimes all in the same story. Her favouritest thing to write about are those horrendously awkward moments that come with being a teenager. Or a human being. Sarah was extremely accident-prone and klutzy as a kid and teen, so her cup runneth over with experiences of horrendously awkward moments to draw from in her writing. Thankfully, she has grown out of her klutziness. Mostly. She is, however, still an embarrassment. She loves a variety of random things, which include doggies (hers as well as yours), Swing Dancing, Ice Hockey, Roller Derby and she is a bit obsessive about paranormal investigation shows and channel E!. She writes light-hearted works under Sarah Billington, and darker, scarier and more torturous stories under her pen name, Edwina Ray, and runs a writing, editing, cover design and small business website design company Billington Media.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Fun and Entertaining Short Read 17 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Kiss Off is an entertaining book that will have readers laughing out loud! It's fun and told in a unique way. A short read that I would recommend to teenagers.

Poppy Douglas is a young girl with big dreams. Uploading videos of her own songs has never got her very far until she releases 'The Kiss Off'. Inspired by the breakup with her cheating boyfriend, the video has gathered a large crowd. And soon she's getting recognised everywhere. When she meets Ty, her world spirals out of control. The word 'privacy' does not exist any more. Can she handle all the pressure of being a rock star's girlfriend and lead a normal life?

I found The Kiss Off a very easy book to get into. I liked the characters, I thought the plot was interesting, but I would have liked to see more description. I didn't like the fact that the main characters weren't described. What does Poppy look like? What does Ty look like? It was very hard to picture the scenes in my head.

Poppy and Ty's relationship was, at first, a pleasure to read about. But then all the sexting, fame and cheating suspicions came and complicated it all. Their relationship was definitely not normal and I loved how they seemed to get through any obstacle put in their way.

If your looking for a short read with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, then I would definitely recommend this to you. The book does lack description and character build-up but overall the book is very interesting.

NOTE: Some of the situations that The Kiss Off deals with, might make some readers feel uncomfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars A quick fun read. 14 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Kiss Off is a really fun quick read. I didn't have any exceptions because lately when I do they are rarely met. So I went into this without reading any reviews. And I really enjoyed it. However, I found the ending to be slightly disappoint.

The Kiss Off is about teenager Poppy, who finds out her boyfriend cheats on her with one of her friends she decides to write a song and share it on youtube. This is just her way to venting her anger but soon she realises just how popular her song is. And when a local band do a cover of her song, her life changes. She starts dating the lead singer Ty but things aren't plan sailing as she is about to discover when Ty becomes an international star.

I loved Poppy, she is funny and kick ass. And she is a singer/song writer. I think many teenage girls will like her and maybe even admire her. Right now, there is a growing popularity on youtube among singers and its a good way to get noticed. So Poppy will be relatable to the youtube generation. When she meets Ty the story really takes off. And its hilarious. I won't say much just that it involves a randy dog (later names Poo Bum) and it will have you in stitches. Ty, aww he is adorable, He is a musician, singer in a band, sweet and good looking who wouldn't like him. And he adores Poppy. They are so cute together. Now Cam, Poppy's ex who cheated on her. I actually did like him. Well not at first but as the story developed I did.

The plot itself is wonderful. It has a mix of everything in it to make a good YA read. It's fun, fast paced but also deals with a lot more serious issues such as underage drinking, relationships and cheating. My only negative with the plot was the ending. It just didn't feel right with the story and for me it just wasn't believable. But I am really looking forwar to the next book and finding out more about Poppy.

I do highly recommend The Kiss Off if you are looking for something a little different that is a quick read and packed with Humour. And fans of books like Audrey Wait are going to really enjoy this one.
