Biography

Elvis Aaron Presley is one of the biggest-selling artists of all-time, but mere numbers cannot begin to explain the colossal cultural impact he had in the mid-20th Century. He was a central figure in the transformation of the grey, conservative 50s into the technicolor 60s through the liberalizing effect of rock and pop music. Frank Sinatra had proved extremely popular in the 40s with young ... Read more in Amazon's Elvis Presley Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Gospel 17 Nov 2006
By A Fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a budget collection of some of Elvis' mellow Gospel songs. The only uptempo song is "Sing You Children". This album was originally released in 1971 and was a minor hit on the Billboard album chart peaking at 69, but over the years it has sold more than 3 million copies and been certified triple Platinum by the RIAA. This CD includes two songs that made the Billboard singles chart, "Peace in the Valley" (which was a Top 40 hit in 1957) and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (which peaked at number 90 in 1968). It is not a bad collection and the price is cheap, but there are better Elvis Gospel collections available now. Unless you are a hardcore Elvis fan who has to own every album he released, I would recommend that you spend a few extra dollars on his "Ultimate Gospel" CD instead. You will get a lot more music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Job Well Done Once More by Elvis! 27 Sep 2007
By B. Oneal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I love the CD. Elvis has a unique voice, which helps explain his enduring legacy. The songs are old favorites and are performed with his usual perfection. Listening to it brings me great pleasure. I highly recommend it to any who enjoy gospel sung by a smooth voice with great power. The only flaw is that it contains only 9 songs. I wish it had twice that number!

5.0 out of 5 stars A SUPERB GODSPELL COLLECTION. 2 May 2007
By Lucchini Freire Aurelio - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
ELVIS was always fond of godspell music so he would give 110 per cent when singing this type or religious music. This album, originally released in 1971, gathers songs from various sources: (There'll Be) Peace in The Valley, I Believe, It Is No Secret (What God Can Do) and Take My Hand, Precious Lord, were on an E.P. from 1957; Sing You Children comes from the "Easy Come, Easy Go" soundtrack (1966); "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "We Call On Him" from the 1967 recording sessions where Elvis was trying to reshape his music style; Who Am I? from the legendary 1969 Memphis sessions; and Let Us Pray, which includes one of the best rockin' bass lines from all Presley's songs, comes from the Change of Habit soundtrack, a godspell film itself. The King feels and gives himself enterely to all the songs as few artist could and can. The sound is great and at last the album comes with its original cover art, one of the best album cover of his discography. A Must!

4.0 out of 5 stars Elvis Gospel 1 Aug 2012
By Allyson Andrews - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Even if I wasn't alive in the 1950's, I was introduced to Elvis Presley later on and I thought his gospel music was good even though I only have heard his gospel and rock and roll and not much of his movie songs and not at all his rhythm and blues and I think Elvis is best at gospel. I do own a copy of this CD but don't play it often but he is good at "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" to name a couple.

Can't go wrong with Elvis. It's was great to hear those songs again. I remember my mom playing the original record album when I was little. I brought back so many memories. I really enjoyed the cd.
