  • Storytelling and directing
  • Shooting, editing, and rendering
  • Creating your very own channel
  • Broadcasting user-generated content
  • Re-broadcasting commercial content
  • Cultivating a devoted audience
  • Fitting into the YouTube community
  • Becoming a success story

Join Alan, who makes part of his living from YouTube, and Michael, a successful filmmaker, author, and D.I.Y. art pioneer. They'll take you from the basics of gear to making it big on YouTube, with a focus on networking and interaction. You'll also sit in on informative interviews with YouTube stars LisaNova, Hank Green (vlogbrothers), WhatTheBuckShow, nalts, and liamkylesullivan.

Alan and Michael understand viral marketing -- and they know what it takes to get your work on everyone's YouTube radar. And, once you read this book, so will you.

About the Author

Alan Lastufka a.k.a. fallofautumndistro (YouTube user name), is one of the Top 100 Most Subscribed Comedians on YouTube. His YouTube videos have had more than three million total views. One of his early short films received multiple airings on the Independent Film Channel.

On YouTube, Lastufka is widely praised for his collaboration videos. One of the most popular is the "iPwn" iPhone parody commercial, starring MadTV cast member LisaNova (as well as some narration at the end that was engineered and produced by Michael Dean).

CNN and YouTube held presidential debates on national television comprised solely of questions submitted by YouTubers via video. On July 23, 2007 U.S. Senator Christopher J. Dodd (D-Connecticut) made a YouTube video response answering a question on the subject of Net Neutrality submitted by Alan Lastufka: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiiCR0USyJg

Lastufka has contributed articles to numerous international magazines and zines, while co-running a popular independent publishing project in Chicago, IL.: www.fallofautumn.com

"YouTube: An Insider's Guide to Climbing the Charts" is, mostly, a really good book, especially for introducing someone to the world of online media distribution. The book is filled with so much information, yet it manages to reveal all the information in a way that doesn't seem condescending to the reader, and doesn't overload the reader's brain.

The book contains almost everything you need to know about the technical side of YouTube (how to get a good video thumbnail, profile design, copyright laws, promotion, ratings and statistics, etc.). It also contains quite a bit of creative information, such as how to film videos, and stuff like that. But, the technical side of the book is really where it shines.

But, the one problem with any books about 'current' things on the internet is that the book's information can easily become outdated, and that has already happened to an extent, with YouTube always changing it's appearance, it's rating system, and how it picks 'featured videos'. Unfortunately, this means a lot of information in the book won't be relevant for much longer.

This book is a great beginner's guide for anyone new to YouTube and video creation, and will also help those with some experience to make higher quality videos and to use YouTube's functionality better.

The authors have a great positive attitude and really know what they're talking about. Recommended.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with this book.It got off to a bad start for me when the author kept reminding us of how great he is and that we should avoid all other books about Youtube because he has read them all and his is the best.Well for starters this book cost me over £12 as a kindle download, whilst the other books about Youtube on Amazon were much cheaper. The content of the book is okay, but most of it is irrelevant or outdated.I think I was about five chapters in before I found anything of interest. A lot of time was devoted to the art of film making, this is okay if you are perhaps making "How To" videos, but Youtube is mostly about spur of the moment comedy and clever parodies.Video Mashups weren't even mentioned.Common sense will serve you better than this book.
