Shorty Rogers completists will welcome this release of a long-forgotten 1959 album with its unlikely title. It is the last of Shorty's numerous RCA Victor big band and small group albums (1953-1961) to be reissued on CD, not surprisingly, since it is the weakest of the lot, being soundtrack music for a B-Grade Tarzan movie. Yet anything composed and arranged by Shorty Rogers must have merit, and some of the tracks have their moments with occasional brief solos by Frank Rosolino and Shorty. There is a certain sameness about proceedings, with endless percussion work and Kenton-like brass passages from the big band. The best portion of the album comprises 1958 live tracks from another Shorty big band which have more straightforward jazz work. Overall, for completists only.
