Product Description

Peter Littlewood - Director, Young People's Trust For The Environment

'An easy-to-read guide showing how young people can make small changes to their families' lives that will have a real and positive impact on our environment. It's also packed full of fascinating environmental facts. We all share responsibility for the state of the world, but our young people are its future and fortunately they are also the planet's most enthusiastic guardians. They are well aware that the grownups have made the mess and it's the young people who are going to have to clean it up! Reading this book is a great way for young environmentalists to set their families on course for a greener future. Recommended for young people and concerned adults alike!'

Totz2teens Member Review

On giving this to my son I wondered how long it would be before I was being quoted sections and being made to do something differently. I was right. About 2 minutes later he starts. Do we do this? Why cant we do that? It opened a huge discussion at dinner about carbon footprints, turning off lights and other energy savers. Most was things I had asked him to do before but it made such a difference having it reinforced in this lovely funky hardback book. Ive asked to have a read now to see if there is anything I can do to help save the planet. Hopefully our little differences will make a big difference in time. Did you know that after a proper dinner it is better to use a dishwasher rather than wash it by hand. I love this book LOL. I wonder if it can justify my usage of the tumble drier. I do recycle the water that comes out if thats any good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This bright book is designed to encourage children to make a difference in a fun and interesting way. Totz2teens Member Rating: 5/5 - Any book that encourages children to make a difference is a good idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for all children, 26 Oct 2008
By Charles Ashbacher - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: You Can Save the Planet: 50 Ways You Can Make a Difference (Mass Market Paperback)
Preventing further damage to the environment is something that all people must be a part of, from the youngest to the eldest. In this book, Wines sets down 50 simple ways in which children can do their part to cut waste, save energy and recycle more. Some, such as turning out lights or taking shorter showers, the children can do themselves. Others, such as putting in more energy efficient light bulbs, necessitate a lobbying effort of their significant adults.
The first step in any movement in environmental protection is awareness, which is certainly an effective result of this book. Written in a style well within the grasp of the late elementary school child, this is a book that should be read by all children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference, 11 Mar 2008

As a mom who is concerned for her children's future on this planet, I was very happy with this book. I found it kid-friendly, kid-doable and fairly comprehensive.

2.0 out of 5 stars Problem solved!, 27 May 2011
By JamesB - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: You Can Save the Planet: 50 Ways You Can Make a Difference (Mass Market Paperback)
I used to stay up all night worried that the world was going to end, but not anymore! Someone gave my daughter this book and, needless to say, problem solved! My daughter was a little skeptical at first that she would actually be able to save the planet, but by closely following the 50 step-by-step directions listed in Miss Wines' tome of knowledge, she did it! I was glad she had the book because, as an adult, I was too stupid to save the planet without the help of my spunky ten year-old.
She quickly identified all of the "energy crimes" in our house and then moved on to the neighbors. They loved it when she started telling them what to do! They used to try washing their cars, watering their plants, and putting diapers on their kids, but not any more! Now we're all making our own detergent, wearing dirty clothes, and leaving urine in our toilets! And nothing is more precious than watching my daughter pee on the compost pile in the backyard!
I am only able to give this book two stars because the author skimps on some details at the end. She only devotes one page to organizing a group of "eco-warriors." It would have been really useful for her to know how to train them and provide them with recycled pitchforks. My daughter had to figure that out all on her own.
Some people think it's cruel to tell a child that she is responsible for saving the planet. After all, there's only 6.7 billion lives at risk. I'm glad this book helped my daughter realize that if the world ended, it would have been her fault! Now I can sleep at night and all the polar bears are safe.
