Having just finished this book I can heartily recommend it to all Kinks fans. The author conducted many interviews with both Ray and Dave Davies (as well as other members of the entourage) and explores their still prickly relationship with each other and former members as well as the many problems that have blighted the band seemingly from day one with genuine insight. A lot of interesting facts are brought to light - notably the brother of original bassist (the late Pete Quaife)- revealing the real reason as to why he finally quit (I won't mention it here, but it's to do with Dave Davies), and the more you read the more complex a character Ray Davies seems. The technical side of the music is not dwelt upon too much, presumably because the excellent book 'All Day & All of The Night' is about as exhaustive as you can get on that subject, but what's here is equally well-researched and the author obviously has a great love of the band without being fawning in the text. I've waited a long time to read a genuine biography of one of the greatest bands of all time and this one delivers. Enjoy.
