Amazon.co.uk Review

You Only Live Twice film boasts the best of the Bond title songs (this one sung on a dreamy track by Nancy Sinatra), but the movie itself is one of the weaker ones of the Sean Connery phase of the 007 franchise. The story concerns an effort by the evil organisation SPECTRE to start a world war, but the not-so-super villain behind the plot is the awfully civilised Donald Pleasence. The thin script is by Roald Dahl (shouldn't we have expected a better Bond nemesis from the creator of mad genius Willy Wonka?), and direction is by British veteran Lewis Gilbert (Alfie). But the movie can't hold a candle to Dr. No, From Russia with Love, or Goldfinger. --Tom Keogh

From the Back Cover

The fifth film in the Bond series, You Only Live Twice is unique for two reasons. Firstly, James Bond gets married and secondly we are introduced to Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the flesh, played menacingly by Donald Pleasance in a screenplay by Roald Dahl (famous for his children's books and short stories), directed by Lewis Gilbert. Also memorable for it's incredible 400,000 GBP set of Blofeld's operational base, complete with the rocket launcher, helicopter landing pad, monorail and massive sgutter to give it the camouflage of a crater lake and of course for 'Q's' invension 'Little Nellie' - a one man miniature helicopter used in some of the most exciting combat scenes during 007's reconnaissance flights over the Japanese Islands.

An American space mission is interrupted when one of their capsules is literally swallowed up by what they suspect is a Russian spaceship. The Americans threaten to retaliate, but the British think otherwise. Everything depends on Bond as he goes undercover in Japan and discovers that Blofeld is the creator of these interceptor rockets. With the help of Ninja collegues, world peace is once again restored and SPECTRE's plans are thwarted.

Out of all the James Bond films, from Dr. No to The World is Not Enough, You only Live Twic has got to be the best one. Sean Connery is clearly the best to play James Bond and this film certainly proves it. With a story line that was quite original compared to other Bond films, superb acting and some great action scenes, especially the famous 'Little Nelly' sequence, one of those unique scenes where the James Bond theme music really goes well. You Only Live Twice is the best James Bond film of all time - no mistake.

One of the Best 6 April 2003
Format:VHS Tape
One of Connery's best. An excellent film drawing on a screenplay by Roald Dahl. Our agent 007 must come face to face with his nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, for the first time. Drawing on the aid of the japanese spy leader, Tiger Tanaka. Bond must put an end to Blofeld's plans, and in so doing create himself more of an enemy than before as will become apparent in later films.
This is defintely one of my favourite films. With great one liners and great action sequences into the bargain. A must see for all Bond fans.

This is the best film ever! It has all the action, plot and pure class of any Bond film but touches like Little Nelly and such makes it the best film in the world ever.
