If you haven't heard the music of Johnny Guitar Watson before then
this album is the ideal introduction.

Covering his 70s releases in the main, with only one track from the unfortunate Bow Wow. This is the best of great artist.

The funky feel to most of the songs is unsurpassed, James Brown and P-Funk can't touch this.

If they had included at least one song from each of the albums "listen", "lone ranger" and "strike on computers" it might deserve 5 stars. For me it falls short of representing his funk career.

the last major influence on modern blues 29 April 2003

For better or for worse, if you hear any of the younger, black, blues bands in Chicago, much of what you'll hear is inspired by Watson's funky work. Imagine Sly Stone meets Albert King; much of this could almost be called disco if not for the blues guitar cutting through to assert his strong roots. This is about as far as blues can go and still sound something like blues to me. Save us from the next generation.

One of the Most Slept on Musical Giants Ever 28 Jun 2004

Johnny Guitar Watson truly bridged styles like there was nothing to it.He brought the pain back in the 50's&60's with His Brand of Blues.then he turned into a Funkateer in the 70's through on.the Brother was a tough Guitar Player, could Groove on the Organ&Handled things on Bass.Wrote, produced,Arranged&Knocked you out with Cold vocal Delievery.this Brother was the truth."a Real Mother for ya" is still Ice like a George Gervin Finger Roll.the Brother dealt with Issues but adde Humor to offset things&Balance them out.you always knew His trademark Licks.give Him dap for His Voice Box as well.RIP to a Stone cold Smooth Soul Brother who always Brought the Groove.
