Amazon.co.uk Review
There are a lot of broad comedies about men refusing to grow up, but few have the sly bite of You, Me and Dupree. Even though Carl (Matt Dillon, Crash, There's Something About Mary) is newly married to Molly (Kate Hudson, Almost Famous, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), when his best friend Dupree (Owen Wilson, Wedding Crashers, The Life Aquatic) ends up homeless, Carl invites Dupree into their house--in which Dupree promptly makes himself at home, culminating in setting the place on fire during lurid sex. But though he's trapped between his wife and his best friend, Carl may have bigger problems as his boss--and father-in-law--hates him and is sneakily working against his marriage. You, Me and Dupree seems at first glance to be a frat-boy farce about men being emasculated by their wives, but the well-written script, guided with a sure hand by director team Joe and Anthony Russo (who each directed episodes of the top-notch TV series Arrested Development), successfully walks a treacherous path between multi-layered characters and comic events, and is all the funnier as a result. Michael Douglas (Wonder Boys, Fatal Attraction) turns in a sharp, nasty performance as Molly's overly-possessive father. Also featuring Seth Rogen (The 40 Year Old Virgin). --Bret Fetzer

Synopsis
Carl Peterson (Matt Dillon) and Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson) have been friends forever. But everything changes when Carl marries Molly Thompson (Kate Hudson) and best man Dupree becomes the third wheel. Free-spirited Dupree's antics suddenly seem juvenile and Carl has to decide where his loyalty lies--with his new wife or his best friend. Still, when Carl discovers that Dupree is down on his luck--he's lost his job, his company car, and his apartment--he invites his best buddy to move in until he's back on his feet. Unfortunately, Dupree isn't exactly Molly's idea of the perfect houseguest. This perpetual bachelor is really an overgrown kid who moves in with a giant moosehead, likes to sleep in the buff, has some unpleasant hygiene issues, and treats life like one big party. Despite Dupree's inability to grow up, he has a good heart: he's just trying to find his niche and enjoy every day along the way. To make matters worse for Molly, Carl has become a cranky workaholic since his boss, Molly's father (Michael Douglas), promoted him. Disheartened by her new husband's late hours, Molly begins to spend more time with Dupree and sees his softer side--something that even Carl has never been aware of. Carl, meanwhile, begins to resent his lackadaisical friend and to question his motives. Ultimately, it's up to Dupree to get Carl and Molly back on track. Wilson gives Dupree a puppy-dog quality that makes him immensely likable, even when he's screwing up. Dillon is surprisingly funny as the straight man in the duo, trying to balance his old life with his new responsibilities. Supporting actor Seth Rogen is a hoot as Carl and Dupree's friend, Neil, who desperately wants to be his own man but is completely under his wife's thumb.

3.0 out of 5 stars You, Me and Dupree, 5 Oct 2007
By Spider Monkey (UK) - See all my reviews

Some reviewers here have slated this film and honestly it's not THAT bad. It's your basic cheesy, American comedy. Great for Sunday afternoon, lazy viewing and not much more. It has a few moments that should get you laughing out loud, but not throughout the whole film. It is quite endearing in places and Owen Wilson makes you like Dupree despite his many flaws. Take it at face value and you should enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great surprise!, 19 Mar 2007
By Hera (England) - See all my reviews
When I first looked at the reviews of this film, I was a bit sceptical about watching it, but I must admit that it was the most delightful film. Really funny. So if you, like me, is in doubt of watching this film, please do, I'm sure you won't regret it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the realms of pointless, 13 Jan 2007
By O. Doyle "celticshedevil" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I like Owen Wilson and think he's highly entertaining. I also like Kate Hudson and Michael Douglas and thought Matt Dillon was excellent in Crash. What I didn't like was all these people together in this movie.

Owen Wilson's character was a dead-beat loafer who can't hold down a job so ends up moving in with his best mate and his new wife. It was hailed as a comedy but the only funny parts of this film were the parts you saw in the trailer.....because in the context of the film....they just weren't all that funny. All in all it was the most disappointing film of 2006.....completely over-rated and just not even remotely entertaining. It was so bad I fast-forwarded through great chunks of it. It was seriously that bad. And believe me, I've watched some drivel in my time! But this......this one took the biscuit!
