Grow Green Today 25 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is an absolute gem. I bought it because the cover was cute, and the chapters seemed relevant to what I needed it for. But upon getting it, I was pleasantly surprised, even excited by it.

First, I am a visual learner, and this book is cute and well-designed in its layout: easy to read, lots of pictures which for a how-to book is necessary, so I appreciate the extra effort with the layout. As well as going over the basics of gardening, which I needed as a complete idiot/novice, it also has loads of garden 'recipes'. Not actual recipes, more like garden projects... the 'edible flower container', or the 'herbal tea garden', and 'cat garden' to name a few.

It has great chapters on making compost, making a wormery, caring for tools, starting seeds... basically a really good 'grounding' (ha ha) in gardening.

The icing on the cake are the garden-related craft projects, which I did not expect but totally adore: how to make a garden apron, making garden stones, make a planter, bath and beauty plants, with a hand-salve recipe! This books is awesome!

Summary: This book is great for the novice, and the little extras would make it a great addition for the advanced gardener. Still not convinced? Go to amazon.com to "look inside" the book for better chapter content.

Not just for the new gardener 7 Mar 2005
By mom22cherubs - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is fantastic. I have been gardening for 8 years and I wish I had had this book when I started. Even though it's target audience is the young city dweller. I, a suburban housewife and mother of two, find it more useful than all my other gardening books (I love Martha, but I just don't have that kind of time or money!).

All the basics are here, distilled into an easy to read format that is fun to read and ispiring. In addition, the book has lots of fun projects that are affordable and easy.

Very inspiring - a great primer for organic and urban gardening! 14 Jan 2007
By Stephanie Lamphere - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Great book about gardening, particularly urban and organic gardening. The author's passion for gardening just exudes from this book and inspires me to grow things and get my hands dirty! It provides a very good lesson on what can and should be done; however, it doesn't go into a great deal of specifics (but how can it, since it covers so much ground!)... you will need to do more homework to do what you are inspired by this book to do. Fortunately there is a great list of resources in the back. You Grow Girl also contains a lot of garden-related projects (like making a gardening tool belt (apron), making seed packets, and making herbal bath & body products. Highly recommended reading, especially right before spring! YOU GROW GIRL! (For additional resources, and to get a feel for how material is presented, visit the website! yougrowgirl.com!)

Brings the fun into gardening.... 29 April 2005
By C. Tucker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I ran across www.yougrowgirl.com and found this book. It's given me a completely different perspective on gardening....from clueless to hopeful. After reading this book I feel I have the confidence to grow things that don't die after the first week. The book was very easy to read, very colourful and interesting. I highly recommend it to someone who is even just slightly interested in plants.
