A Great Pulp Read 2 Mar 2011
By M. Dowden HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Prolific writer and celebrated mystery author Max Allan Collins here teams up with Matthew Clemens to give us a roller-coaster ride of a book. J C Harrow returns form work after saving the President's life, only to find that hs wife and son have been murdered. Vowing to find the murderer, Harrow becomes haunted by their deaths.

Six years later and Harrow is anchorman for tv show Crime Seen! when an assistant on the show finds something that may be a clue to Harrow's family's deaths, via another murder case. Claiming live on air that he is going to get the murderer of his family, Harrow has just given himself a tough assignment, as well as ensuring the viewer ratings will be high for the nest season series.

Putting together a great team Harrow is ready to catch the murderer, but they soon reliase that this is a serial killer, who has killed many people and is definitely leaving some sort of message behind him. Thus begins a cat and mouse game with the killer pulling the strings - after all if you are going to leave a sort of message, you need to know that this is being passed on.

With viewer ratings soring, the team are definitely on the hunt, but will they catch their man, and will they themselves remain safe? With some good twists and turns, slowly the truth is revealing itself.

I first came across Max Allan Collins due to his great Quarry series of books, and if you have never read anything by him before, or indeed Matthew Clemens, then you are sure to lap this up, especially if you love crime pulp and/or CSI.

worth a read 13 Mar 2011

I got this book free for my kindle and i am definately going to buy the follow up.
This book kept me gripped as i couldn't work out how it was going to end. I enjoyed the fact that it was a t.v. series called crime scene which was set up by a victim of 'the messenger' as well as the police that was trying to solve murders of the wives and children of civil servents. And i can't wait to read the next installment of 'crime scene'.

thoughly enjoyed 11 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I am pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had not read any of Max Allan's previous novels and downloaded when it was free on Kindle. I am so glad that I did, the pace of the story was enough to keep you engaged but not so fast that you loose track of the story line. Unlike many supsence/thriller books there are no great leeps of deduction that leave you thinking "how did you come to that conclusion?", all the detective work was well thought out and easy to follow the logical moves. My only criticism is that there are few loose ends left at the end, and I would have liked to have known the outcome of these.

All in all a good little read and I will be keeping an eye out for other books by the same author
