You Can Paint Vibrant Watercolours [Hardcover]

Dan Burt

Available from these sellers.

Book Description

1 Mar 2001
Dan Burt's paintings vibrate with pure, vivid color-exactly the look that so many watercolor artists strive for. The good news for them is that Burt can explain and illuminate his approach to creating such joyous paintings. Although they look loose and spontaneous, each painting is actually well-planned and thoughtfully conceived. Burt teaches his straightforward and enjoyable approach with the same enthusiasm he applies to his painting. Readers will learn how to paint with pigment puddles, work from light to dark in four stages, and other secrets for evoking the vibrancy of transparent watercolor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watercolor review 2 May 2009
By Raku Rudy - Published on Amazon.com

I first borrowed the book from the library, and found that I liked Dan Burt's style and philosophy on painting. I wanted to paint with my "impression", not make my paintings look too lifelike. This book is not in print, and Amazon had a vendor, Larry, who mailed me the book, which he described as in "excellent condition". When I received the book, it was like I got it off of the shelf at Barnes and Noble. I've been reading and re-reading the book; painting while glancing at the book for insights; and using it to "not take myself too seriously"...to have fun. I highly recommend this book to someone wanting to free themselves and paint vibrantly. My pottery website is: [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can Paint Vibrant Watercolors 8 Feb 2011
By Marie Clawson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this book real cheap from one of the sellers on Amazon so I wasn't sure as to what to expect. The book that I received is hard-bound and it has about 120 pages of full color illustrations so that in itself is worth it. The author is a very talented artist and is exceptional at painting very loose watercolors.

This is a good book but it wasn't what I thought it was.
I am in a different place in my painting classes.
It is for the vibrant and free painter.
Do like Dan's work and books.
5.0 out of 5 stars can't get enough! 4 Oct 2012

I am attempting to buy my third book by Dan Burt, since one of my students never returned my original copy and the second copy ordered online was sold before I could buy it! Dan is a delightful person and a great teacher and I miss his book in my art library. When I saw his work years ago, I thought that gosh, he must be on drugs or something to be so zany and unfettered with a brush! But he is the a thoughtful, intelligent, generous, soft spoken and careful teacher who has inspired many and won countless awards nationally for his work. His palette is restricted, and he "starts with a bad drawing"! He said that once he was afraid to paint in water color, but now he's afraid not to! Whether you want to loosen your work and experiment or just enjoy the thought processes of a creative mind, this book is a good investment.
