Product Description

When Michelle McManus won Pop Idol in 2003, she became as famous for her size as for her singing voice. At first she ignored the catty comments in the press, but when she realized that her weight had crept up to a potentially life-threatening 22 stone, she finally decided enough was enough. Enter Channel 4's top-rated show, You Are What You Eat. At the end of 2004, Michelle bravely subjected her diet to the scrutiny of holistic nutritionist and presenter, Gillian McKeith. For the first time she was forced to confront the truth about her food habits. And, gradually, she started to re-educate herself about how to eat healthily. The results were nothing short of astonishing. In the space of a year, Michelle lost an incredible 8 stone, dropping 5 dress sizes along the way. What's more, she felt better and more energized than ever before. And all without dieting. This is Michelle's frank and funny personal diary of her extraordinary journey. Featuring Michelle's exclusive recipes, tips and exercise plans that you can follow at home, it is an inspiration to anyone trying to find a realistic route to a healthy lifestyle.

This is an open, honest and hilarious view of pop idol 2003 winner Michelle Mcmanus' journey through the are what you eat programme which has helped her to lose 8 stone.
I work in the fitness industry and struggle to convince my clients to steer clear of fad diets and change their eating habits for good. It doesnt take Michelle long at the beginning of the book to realise that fad diets dont work. With the help of nutrition guru Gillian McKeith, Michelles change from eating junk and boozing all the time to eating healthy nutritious food that some of us have never even heard of is nothing short of inspirational. As is her change from bottles of white wine to Carrot and beetroot juice!
No human being could make this change without some struggles and Michelles reports of making it through social occasions where she might normally have drunk to excess is very entertaining.
With recipes and ideas on exercises this book is a must read for those who need a kickstart for the new year. Dont waste your time on fad diets, this is the ONLY way to lose weight and Michelle is proof of this. And even if you're not trying to lose weight and just want an entertaining read this book is fantastic.

Michelle, my belle 7 Mar 2006
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent story of partial triumph over adversity. Everyone knows that Michelle was the big fat one from Pop Idol and that she was as unlikely a winner as Norton's Coin in the 1990 Gold Cup. What we learn here from Michelle is the behind the scenes stuff: the tears behind the laughter; the very real health problems; the gas and bad feet; the shock of seeing those bikini shots in Heat. With the support of her family and the pointed hectoring of Gillian McKeith, Michelle moved from pizzas to birdseed and shed piles of fat. The before and after photos are more than enough proof of how well it has worked - she's easily down to an 18 now and feels there's more to come. Keep it going, hen! I met Michelle a couple of years ago in a Garthamlock working men's club and still have the bus pass she signed for me. She's a lovely girl and God bless her.

I was one of the million who voted for Michelle Mcmanus on Pop Idol - not just because I thought she had a great voice but also because I felt this woman needed a break - why should she not be a pop star just because her image is not what you would expect from your usual stick thin singer!
To read that she actually put on weight after the show was a bit of shock - to hit 22 stone must have been just hideous.
This book details how she really did change her whole life - I watched the original TV show with interest and was amazed how different her attitude was to food in such a short space of time - to lose 8 stone (which is infact a small person) is really something to be celebrated - well done Michelle!
I think anyone wanting to lose any amount of weight should invest in this book - it really was an excellent read, funny and inspirational.
