I am definitely and unashamedly biased (being an 'ordinary' person who was one of Britain's worst Eaters prior to Doc Gillian shaking up my life) but having read through this book I firmly believe if you follow the author's passion for a better life then this is the way to go and you will feel and see the difference! It's not always easy and if you live in a small town collecting some of the ingredients can be challenging but well worth it. Love the books layout, tips and approach to healthy living. It is now my Bible.... Yx

This is a sensible book and there is a lot of information in its pages. If you are looking for a recipe plan to follow then you're provided with a 7 day meal planner plus a step by step detox day plan. Recipes are included but there aren't many. If this, plus the brief tips on supplements and on dieting, are all that you want then the information (minus the step-by-step detox day plan) is available free of charge on Gillian McKeith's official website (www.drgillianmckeith.com) - go to the Nutrition section and click on dayplanner etc. If it looks like a plan you can follow, then the book is worth buying as it does provide useful information about how to read the condition of your tongue etc, and the particular supplements which you might find beneficial.

Is it practical? Well, it does depend on your access to a good health store and a well-stocked supermarket and on your willingness to try new foods and completely eradicate others. And you may find that it doesn't easily fit into a family setting.

Does it work? Yes as long as you stick to her 'rules'and as long as you can stick to the change in eating habits (just like all diets then, really).

3 stars only, because of the extent of the repetition from McKeith's website.

I, like many other women in their early 30's, have tried every conceivable diet known to man, including Weightwatcher (those bloody points!), Slimming World, Cabbage Soup (yuk), Grapefruit, F Plan, Atkins (Do not try this one - you breath smells like Satan's bottom) etc etc etc. And after nearly 18 years of dieting (I started young), I weighed in at unhealthy 14 stone 2 lbs - perfect height/weight ratio for a 6 ft strapping man (which I wasn't last time I checked). I must have gained and lost the same 2-3 stone at least 6 times. However, I caught You Are What You Eat on channel 4 one evening, and thought I'd give it a go. I filled the fridge with veggies and fuit, made my own homemade soup to snack on and dived into seed, nuts & beans with great gusto. And you know what ? It WORKS...It REALLY does. After the detox weekend, which Dr Gillian recommends to start, I lost 6 lbs in the first week ! Then another 3 lbs in week 2, another 3 lbs in week 3, and a further 2.5lbs this week. Thats over a stone (just in case your sums aint up to much) in 4 weeks. And I dont feel hungry...hurray ! I love you Dr Gillian.!!..(sorry for the gushing-Im not getting a back hander honest). The best result however isnt the weight loss - I feel incredible. No more bloating, dodgy stomach aches, spots ( yep clear skin too ), excess wind (ahem), more enegry - I now wake up before the alarm. I heartily recommend this book and what it stands for - Im living proof it works. For the first time I dont feel like I am dieting, yet feel better and Im losing weight.(unfortunately it hasn't taken 15 years off my looks, but hey, its only been 4 weeks - I live in hope ).
