Product Description

Review

"'To read this perceptive and stimulating book is to go on a journey of exploration into ourselves and our relational world. We won't end the journey as we began. Using narrative as an interpretative key, Alison Webster examines the pitfalls and potential that reside in our 'one-offness', and ultimately she offers us the possibility of personal and social transformation. We are much in her debt for a brave, honest and altogether fascinating book.' John Pritchard, Bishop of Oxford"

Product Description

What is our identity in God's eyes? It is a form of passionate commitment to embracing the gift of our uniqueness, while allowing that uniqueness to dissolve and give way to something greater. In turn, that something greater will give new meaning to our uniqueness. So it goes on in a constant circle, the gift of our identity connecting us ever more closely with one another and with God. In this inspiring book, Alison Webster explores what it means to be human: she looks at relationships, power, disadvantage in the face of dominant ideas of normality, faith and the way we encounter God, and how we grow and change.

Alison Webster presents a powerful and hopeful argument for interconnectedness. She explores what it means to have an identity that doesn't fit with the prevailing views in society, and the subtle roles institutions and organisations play shaping which stories we get access to and which are marginalised as well as other issues around relationships to others and ourselves, power and spirituality. Her considerable research, and moving personal examples are woven effortlessly into the argument to create a really readable, short work brimming with energy and life.
I found this book fascinating, exploring areas of identity I had never previously questioned in an engaging style. I would thoroughly recommend it.
