The fact that it's over three months since this album was released and I'm the first to review it, shows just how overlooked South are. This is their fourth album yet South are still not getting the recognition they richly deserve. I think it's because they don't play live enough, but hey, this isn't an article about the unjust nature of the music industry, it's a review about South's stunning new album!

You Are Here has been produced by Brett Shaw, from the band, and whilst this would normally strike fear into the ears of their fans, they've actually done a very good job. Whereas Athlete's self-produced third album failed to hit the heights of its predecessors, South have managed to keep their identity whilst producing a mature and progressive collection of songs.

There's no mistaking the familiar harmonies and softly sung lead vocals, however they've developed by introducing a range of new sounds and instruments. You can hear various new influences across the album including tinges of flamenco, ska and reggae, especially noted on `The Pain' and `She's Half Crazy'. This isn't an easy album to pigeon hole, with a more delicate and traditional approach to songs like `Better Things' and `Every Light Has Blown', which carries with it a beautiful melody.

I highly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of good indie music. If you like Mercury Music Award winners Elbow, then chances are you'll like South. If this is your first introduction to the band, I suggest you also buy their previous three, as you won't be disappointed.
