5.0 out of 5 stars That disarmingly simple Kiyohiko Azuma style 20 Aug 2005
Format:Paperback
I'm of the opinion that Azuma's previous series Azumanga Daioh simply cannot be bettered. There is just nothing as unflinchingly, overwhelmingly and irrepressibly nice on the planet.
That said, this is a fine successor to Azumanga Daioh, and fans will see a lot of the characters of that series momentarily floating to the surface of Yotsuba&!; indeed, most of Yotsuba&!'s characters could be called remixes of Azumanga characters.
That's no bad thing. The key to Azumanga Daioh was the perfect characters, and Azuma's clearly wise to this. Basically, what you get with this is a surreal sitcom to rival the likes of Fawlty Towers, but in the manga style, and perhaps more importantly in the Azuma style; simple, even childish art style at times, but all the more effective for it, and an episodic narrative that appears to have no real order to it but which in fact is simply the way real life works, reflected in the story. In this way the characters remain the heart of the book, rather than any overarching plot as such. As well as more of Yotsuba's antics as we saw in the first book, this volume contains a little more exploration of the considerably less peculiar, but still not really describeable as normal, family next door.
It's a fantastic bit of unabashed fun. Laugh, smile, be fond, forget your troubles. This ought to be a prescribed medicine for The Blues.

This is the second volume of Yotsuba I've bought from Amazon (very good price), about the funny young girl in Japan. She acts very strangely, even for a child like her, but she is constantly joyful. She is also the focal point of frequently hilarious events, which is one of the reasons why I chose this book after sampling the story in a library.

I recommend this book to anyone (adults and kids alike), and this volume has the really funny 'Vengeance' episode, where Yotsuba causes havoc in her neighbour's house with a water gun. You should also check out Azumanga Daioh (by the same artist), but whilst Daioh has some geniunely laugh-out-loud moments, Yotsuba's humour takes less time to build up.

I recommend a purchase! Go for it!

Chi's Sweet Home is a brilliant series of books that I first discovered while in Japan! I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes funny manga stories like Azumanga Daioh or Chi's Sweet Home!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright and funny 13 Nov 2011

I love this series, it's cheerful and funny for people both young and older. I own the first two volumes and frequently share them with my younger brother who loves it just as much as I do. Yotsuba's antics never fail to make us smile!
