Arnold Kellett is a man who knows and treasures Yorkshire, its landscape, it people and its language - and that comes out clearly in this labour of love. He makes the point, very succinctly, that "Yorkshire" is not just a dialect, it's an ancient language which still retains words and expressions which have long since vanished from modern English.

This dictionary is a work of scholarship as well as a thoroughly enjoyable read. As suitable for the casual browser as for the serious student, it will delight anyone who is even passingly familiar with Yorkshire's Broad Acres.

I bought this book as I am an author and have entered the realm of the Yorkshire Moors in my next novel and needed to make the dialect enriched for the readers enjoyment. This book is a no nonsense dictionary of Yorkshire slang and dialect and is excellent and is also a superb piece of reference.

I've read through the very interesting introduction, and I'm now dipping into the dictionary and being transported back to my beginnings in South Yorkshire.

The style of writing is succinct, the articles informative and the origins of the words is an added interest.
