Product Description

Product Description

This is a compact guide to the southern half of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, an area which offers a superb network of bridleways, usable year-round, and awesome scenery rising above 700m. Mountain biking heaven on excellent trails weaving through a landscape of limestone plateaux, open moorland and clumps of broad leaf woodland. This work features 23 routes of varying difficulty and length, 'top ten' climbs, descents and cruises and visitor information. The routes were compiled and written by a highly experienced (and local) guidebook writer, plotted on Harvey Map's cycling-specific maps and illustrated with colour photography from Andy Heading.

This is a great area to mountain bike in and a really good book with some superb routes. They are carefully structured and clearly divided into rides of roughly equivalent duration.Instructions and descriptions are accurate and clear and each route has its own Havey's map and a useful diargam showing ascent and descent over the course of the ride.Photographs are excellent throughout and provide real encouragement to get out in the Dales.

The book has recently been published and feels modern in every respect.I have been using much older book, covering the Lake District and the Dales together which really suffers from being nearly 20 years out of date.Equipment and riding surface has changed a lot in that time. You really feel that the author has ridden all these routes recently and thought carefully about what to include, and equally importantly, what to leave out.Although the book appears expensive it is fair value when you at the information provided and the fact that the maps are detailed and not just schematic diagrams.

Great book, bought after doing some routes and having some great weekends camping from the the South Dales book.

I'd never ridden this area before properly but with this guide it makes you feel like a local. Great routes, great maps (yes proper maps to follow - no need forn the o/s) and great tips on the areas. Pubs, shops and campsites (very useful) etc. Something for everyone no matter what your fitness - but i esp like the 'Killers' section :o)

Another stonking guide in my ever growing V-graphics collection.

Like I've said these are up to date routes, written by people who ride now rather than outdated guides full of b/w pictures of people carrying fully rigid bikes from the 80's.

Great stuff

Awesome 4 Mar 2007
Format:Paperback
This book is great

It starts off with a bit about biking and then some basic info about biking in he Dales (Maps needed etc)

The routes are divided up into 4 Sections with a 5th bonus section

Section 1 - Classics

Section 2 - Epics

Section 3 - Enduros

Section 4 - Killers

All routes are niceley laid out with Elevation data, total ascent, start / finish info. Pubs in the area and cafes. I have done most of the routes in the book and many more than once. Its written in such an easy to follow way with some humor thrown in for good measure, although the book is expensive, I do feel you get value for money! A great must have for all MTBRS

A short cut to some great riding
I had forgotten how much I liked Yorkshire till I bought this book. There is some excellent riding over there and it must be good for a Lancastrian to admit that! Read more

Great little book
As with all books in this series, a good companion particularly when you're new to an area and want a few trails to ride. Gradings were accurate and directions were good.

A Superb Book
I can only echo the other reviewers here. This book is a real gem in every way. The routes are nearly all rideable and if there are sections that aren't you are warned about it. Read more
