Product Description

Product Description

Yorkshire CCC On This Day revisits all the most magical and memorable moments from the county’s distinguished cricketing past, mixing in a maelstrom of quirky anecdotes and legendary characters to produce an irresistibly dippable diary of Yorkshire history – with an entry for every day of the year. From the club’s Victorian foundation to the Twenty20 era at a floodlit Headingley, the whole glorious Yorkshire gamut of incidents, great matches, huge crowds and controversies is covered – from the occasion when a game started twice, to the time when a Yorkshireman captained South Africa, and even when a Yorkshire cricketer rode a Grand National winner. Fully endorsed by the club, this immense wealth of history, nostalgia and irresistible trivia forms a backdrop against which county heroes – names such as Fred Trueman, Brian Close and Lord Hawke, Hedley Verity, Darren Gough and Sir Leonard Hutton – all loom larger than life.
All major events, achievements, related stories and the great cricketers who played their part throughout Yorkshire’s immense history are covered. For a county that is justifiably proud of its teams down the years this is a book that supporters will repeatedly refer to.

Too many of the days were filled with mundane events, which is one of the problems when you are trying to record Every Day.
Too much Headingley and not enough YCCC !

4.0 out of 5 stars Matchday Companion 23 May 2013

My first thought: how much work James Buttler must have put into this! Some of the facts are so obscure.

It's a book to throw into your bag when attending a game, a continual source of delight. And if there are one or two errors, perhaps they will be corrected in a second edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent xmas present 10 Mar 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my Dad (who used to be a YCCC season ticket holder) and he found it to be a very interesting look through the club's varied & chequered history. He remembers a lot of the events highlighted in the book and is very happy with it.
