    Cardio Vascular Fitness
Cardiovascular exercise is the number 1 way to improve your general health, burn body fat and increase your fitness levels. Assessing your cardiovascular goals is the first step and understanding a little about intensity levels will ensure that the time invested in your exercise sessions returns the greatest benefits, rather than a hit and miss approach.
    Cardio for good health:
This form of exercise is for those wishing to improve quality of life and general well being and is the one for you if you are not out to break any land speed records. Gentle ‘good health’ cardio training will increase your fitness level to a degree, helping you get through day-to-day tasks more easily and with more energy.
    Cardio for weight loss:
To see a significant reduction in body fat, your sessions must be a little more intense (between 60 and 70% of your estimated maximum heart rate) than that required for a good health approach. These sessions can also be performed on most days of the week for up to 30 minutes and should ideally be supplemented with some form of strength training.

I've been looking for a cross trainer to improve my overall fitness and after doing a fair bit of research decided the X101 looked like giving the best value for money.

Since receiving it the X101 has really exceeded my expectations. It has good build quality, isn't too difficult to assemble and doesn't take up too much space.

Once you get it working it provides a very stable platform for exercise and has a smooth action. As I live in a flat I also wanted something fairly quiet to avoid upsetting the neighbours and I'm delighted to say the X101 is virtually silent when in use.

Although it doesn't come with all the bells and whistles that more expensive units have I have to say I'm very pleased with this product which I would say is excellent value for money.

Bought this cross trainer about two months ago as no longer a gym member. Took slightly longer than expected to put together and obviously not as sturdy as the expensive gym models, but does the job. This model seemed to be a great price compared to other similar specs.

The resistance levels offer an easy way to increase difficulty, and the computer is a great measure on how many calories you've burned and how quickly you can reach your target distance. Smooth movement and easy to use as well as transport given its light weight and wheels.

This is the first elliptical I've bought and really pleased with it so far. Just hope i can keep the motivation up to use it every day!

Comes in a very large, heavy box, well packaged. Good clear instructions of how to put together (step by step). There are a few tricky bits which require strength to fix together , i doubt anyone could fix it up alone,. It took two of us! Once assembled it was ready to use straight way. Its a solid machine which doesn't take up masses of space. It's silent and the screen is easy to read and clearly shows distance/calories/ etc. I've been using it most days for over a month and found it ideal. Already started to tone up and loose weight. It is a unisex machine and as a woman i've found it just the right size for me. I recommend it!

What can I write about the York X101 Cross trainer? It was relatively easy to assemble, once all screws etc had been found and it was all ready to use within 2 hours.
The instructions were well set out, the book was easy to follow.
So if you`re looking for a work out, putting the trainer together is quite an accomplishment in itself! The exerciser itself will give you hours of fun, which is what you want exercise to be. And it is fun the first time you use it, any age can enjoy the cross trainer. My mum bought it as she had knee replacement surgery last year, and its a low impact piece of equipment and its made a difference to her already!
Be aware that it is heavy once assembled, which sounds obvious, but trying to move it out the way is a work-out in itself!
A hassle free cross trainer that allows you the freedom in your home to exercise relatively cheaply, better than being in a gym anyday! I give it 5 stars.

First of all, let me state that I am a regular and devoted shopper at Amazon and have used them without any problems for years.

Unfortuately, we found with this purchase that there is a huge difference between buying simple things like CDs, books, small electrical items off Amazon and large, heavy, self-assembly exercise equipment. It just didn't work out well at all.

The item was delivered promptly, but straight away my suspicions were aroused by a box that looked like it had been opened before and appeared rather scuffed and untidy. The thick copper staples that normally require a screwdriver to remove just came away in my fingers.

Once we started to assemble the cross trainer, we found that the tension cable which connects the control on the front of the machine to the flywheel was faulty and couldn't be installed.

It was then that the shortcomings of dealing with Amazon became apparent. There was no one to talk to about the problem except for York's customer service department - and they just assume that there's nothing wrong with their equipment and you must be at fault.

After much unhelpful communication with York, we sent the cross trainer back to Amazon and they delivered a replacement - same shabby box, same problem. This time we have asked for a refund and ordered another machine from an online retailer, Fitness Superstore, who specialise in fitness equipment. They have a dedicated helpdesk and will send someone out if you have difficulty with assembly.

I'm sure that if the York X101 is delivered fault-free it would be a good product, so a star-rating is irrelevant for this review. My advice, however, for anyone considering buying a heavy-duty piece of equipment like this, requiring quite an arduous assembly process, is to go to a specialist retailer...

...meanwhile, I'll keep ordering my CDs from Amazon!

Bought item a month or so ago as it was the only one that catered for us Heavy people, at a reasonable price. Couldn't believe how difficult it was to get an exercise machine that catered for those above 100kgs.
Agree with comments that it takes a little longer to make up and I have to keep retightening the right foot plate - but it's no hardship. For the very unfit it is an idea machine because you can simply get on and exercise for a little time as you can, gradually building up. Kids use it too, so that's a bonus.
It is bigger than the likes of an indoor bike but isn't so heavy it can't be moved easily.
